Yeah agreed. I cant stand Berna, but him as LB I would try over Emerson. We need to keep that side pinned down offensively, Berna can stay wide and do crosses, support Insigne with his presence. Emerson offensive game is insanely limited. Guy has like 7 assists in as many years.

And Calabria is healthy so I dont really get why he wasn't called up. Would be very good balanced choice for the right side.

You know, that might not be a bad choice. He lacks the starting pace or dribbling ability to be a true winger, but as a wing back it could work. Hate him or love him, he does have skill.

Dani Olmo is a dangerous player to go up against, the outside chance that Berna might contribute in attack is not worth the risk he poses defensively, Id rather start Emerson. The Berna assist count isnt impressive either :D

Its not sure Dani Olmo will start (Sarabia tends to). And if he does he tends to one in for left AM role (Ferran Torres right side), so he will be facing Di Lorenzo most of the time.

Spain almost exclusively attack from left because Alba. The right side they don't do much, just recycle possession and every go central.

It's Morata who's going to kill the Azzurri.

For Bernardeschi to play LWB Mancini would have to change to a back 3 with Toloi. Too much work imo. Better to stick with the 433 that is working so well and use Palmieri, otherwise why even call him up. He has always been fine for Mancini anyway.

Spinazzola is a huge loss that neither Palmieri nor Bernardeschi can cover properly, might as well not sacrifice the rest of the system for it.

Really loving the unity of this team. One for all and all for one.
You know people always say that Italy is not a united nation, that it is a collection of different nationalities/cities brought together artificially, that its north and south are practically different countries that dont get along, but I see that is not the case and it is one of the most unified and patriotic nations in the world.

Now Belgium, THAT is something that is not even close to a nation state :D

As bad as Immobile has been in the KO rounds, I actually think he’ll suit playing against the Spanish as Italy won’t have nearly as much of the ball and will play on the break more. Something that suits Immobile to a tee.

To me, he struggles right now in Italy’s high-tempo, gung-ho front foot attacking style. Belotti’s characteristics as a striker (better with back to his goal, physically stronger and able to help midfield runners go forward) are more suited to play this style, pity he is nowhere near prolific enough at this level.

If only Italy hd a Bobo Vieri 1998 level striker at this tournament…they’d be unstoppable.

No it’s still a very divided country in many ways.

Only really see a real sense of patriotism a few weeks at a time during international football or other sporting tournaments.

It’s only been a unified country for about 170 years. Before this, they were a bunch of city-states who were at war with each other (and other invading nation states) for centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire.

I don't rate him much, but at least he's solid in defense isn't he? Better him than playing a CB imo.

...As much as I hate to say it, Berna might be the closest thing to Spina.

Or maybe even Chiesa? :shifty:
DiLorenzo needs to play like a RCB in that case though and Locatelli instead of Vertatti :boh:
TBF to Emerson, he was the main starting LB for the majority of the European qualifiers. He was perfectly fine in the role for the most part. Certainly won’t offer the dynamism and width that Spinazzola has provided so far, but he is pretty solid going both ways.

Sarabia will miss the game apparently. He’s been good for Spain with a couple of goals and assists, but Olmo isn’t a bad replacement right?
