this is just a suggestion but could this work?

--------------------Buffon--------------------------
----Maggio----Barzagli---Chiellini---DiScigilio----
----Candreva---DeRossi---Pirlo---Cerci-----------
---------------Rossi----Balotelli--------------------

we could sub in:
Cassano* for Rossi*
Immobile for Balotelli
Insigne* for Rossi/Cerci
Motta for DDR or Pirlo
Marchisio for DDR or Pirlo
Montolivo for DDR or Pirlo

*= pending if Prandelli takes him to Brazil
I really hope we take Cassano and rossi

what do you guys think?

cerci and candreva are great wing players. and a Rossi-Balo duo could be devastating
these tournaments are won with great wing play, lately at least. Wing play is the KEY, we had great wings at the 2006 wc, we lost them in 2010... now we have solid ones again. I think our attack, mid and wings are among the elite in the world, uncharacteristic for Italy what worries me is our central defense. If that part of the team is solid we will be very hard to beat.

??? WAT
Because of lack of left wingers Lippi was forced to use Perrotta on the left wing, Italy played with 4231 defensive formation, they had perfect team balance, build-up play and chemistry between players, the key part of that squad was defence, they conceded only 2 goals - 1 was autogoal, 2 was from penalty kick

-Maggio is a liability as an RB
-De Sciglio is primarily a RB
-the center-left looks weak defensively
-both flanks look weak defensively
-Cerci doesn't play on the left and had perhaps the best season of his life as an SS, why would you then go and put him as a LM?
-Italy should definitely not play a 4-4-2

3-5-2 is ok as long Bonucci stays out of the lineup.
Agreed.

Bonehead is always save by Chiellini and Barza and we can't afford that in WC. Its not a walk in the park like our regular Serie A games.
No need to argue a blind man can see that.

That team was special... I always love a good defensive Italy... But to have players like pippo and Del on a bench that team had to be special ;)
