Just saw the result. I turned off before penalties.
-I thought Prandelli did brilliant tbh. Montolivo did as well as possible in that role. Everyone stop pretending Giovinco and Diamanti are trequartistas. They (Giovinco especially) wouldn't have the legs, strength and willingness to do the defensive work.

-Balo over ADN is 50/50 but Balo did everything you'd want from a CF (except the goal). ADN is more a poacher that represents the older style.

-Cassano was down but really, no-one else could play his role of holding the ball in those areas so what can you do.

-Abate was strong and even put some nice crosses. Nocerino was a good sub because it allowed us to maintain control and not allow England to get running.

Overall, Italy could've started playing this style 10+ years ago. The benefit is that referees now are pretty much likely to support the team that is pro-active. Sure it was only England, but the willingness to boss the game for 120mins is something I've never seen from Italy in my life.

And Pirlo, no words. First he trolls England before the game, then bosses it, then does a 'Psychological mind-fuk penalty' to switch the momentum. Freak.

I think Balotelli did well under that situation yesterday, England was parking their damn bus well and Balo kept the defenders busy. Imo Balotelli was better than Cassano yesterday and De Rossi sub was due to some pain he was suffering during the match yesterday, can't remember where I read it though.

Italy were very good.

I have been telling people for months now, that Italian football is more attacking than it has been for years.

Great to watch Pirlo, an absolute magical football player. Better than Xavi for me.

Te amo mas.

Cassano was bad toady too. I'd give him a chance against Germany's defense though, he's tricky enough.

Balo makes bad decisions all game long. Unless he proves he's ready to play he shouldn't, and in my eyes he hasn't shown anything. I'd rather see one of the youngsters out there.
Which youngster? There are only two players that are below the age of 25 in the Italy squad. Both of them are 21 and one of them is Balotelli. Even though his finishing was cack (except Di Natale all of them are), he stretched and stood his own against the two England CBs and provided that physical presence Italy desperately needed. He may not be a world beater, but he's way ahead of the other 21 year old in the squad.

I don't see why people say Balotelli played poor, he did everything well except finishing, on a different day he could have got a couple.

Not sure about the strongest but i do agree that midfield has been the highlight of Italy's campaign so far,all three players have had brilliant tournaments so far..Midfield will be the key to beat Germany once again.

Although I don’t think many Italian players would get into the top teams in the Premier League they were better in the most important areas.

-Harry Redknapp
I bet all of them would make it into any team. Buffon, Barza, Chiellini, Pirlo, De Rossi, Marchisio etc would walk into any team. And I bet 95% of the squad would make it into his own Tottenham.

What a load of shit, Buffon and Pirlo are arguably the best players ever to play at their respective positions (GK & DLP/Regista). They would all easily walk into most teams. Buffon, Pirlo, De Rossi & Chiellini are automatic for any team and Barza & Marchisio would walk into most.

The guy is a moron and would probably have done a worse job than Hodgson if put in charge. He's just trying to get the momentum going so everyone can reassure themselves that the EPL survives on talented foreign players.

What exactly has Balotelli done to deserve a place in this squad? If he wasn't black, he wouldn't have even been considered. I say it as I see it.
:sergio: Did you even watch the match? Apart from his finishing, Balotelli played pretty well, he's more deserving of a spot right now that Cassano.
