I also would prefer De Rossi in midfield, but I can see why he prefers him there over Ogbonna, who has basically zero experience at this level.
I dont see how he can start a serie b centre back in a game as big as Spain... I wouldv'e left Ogbonna at home and brought along Astori instead. Fingers crossed anyway!

3 of us flying out tomorrow from Dublin to Prague...picking up Campervan there then 2 weeks spent between Poznan and Gdansk.

First Game crucial for Ireland, need a result v Croatia, under Trap our football is far from pleasing on the eye but 14 games unbeaten now and we are ready for the trip of a lifetime. The group will be very close but Hopefully come June 18th both Ireland and the Azzurri are celebrating qualification in Poznan. Barzaglai will be a loss but fair play to prandelli for waiting for him if he is back for the quaters it will give Italy a major boost

Italy will be just fine. I think the set of strikers/attackers they took are dynamic, creative, and will cause problems for opposition defenders. I honestly don't think any of the players left behind would have made a significance/difference to this team. It's time to stop living/relying on the past and trust the current batch of players and the future they potentially represent.

anyone knows what happend with pirlo? i read on football italia that he didn't train today
Pirlo doesn't need training, he needs rest. Damn we overused the poor guy this year! I hope we get him a descent backup so he could rest a bit next year, we ran him into the ground.

3-5-2 would be ideal IMO.

Buffon
Astori - Bonucci - Chiellini
Maggio - De Rossi - Pirlo - Marchisio - Balzaretti
Cassano - Balotelli

Bench: De Sanctis, Ogbonna, Motta, Montolivo, Giovinco, Borini, Di Natale

Option #2

Buffon
De Rossi - Bonucci - Chiellini
Maggio - Motta - Pirlo - Marchisio - Giaccherini
Cassano - Balotelli

Bench: De Sanctis, Ogbonna, Nocerino, Montolivo, Giovinco, Borini, Di Natale

The 3-5-2 suits us more IMO. I'm a bit worried to throw Montolivo in as a trequartista, but if he does perform well the whole team will perform well IMO.

I didn't cry, but that place is depressing as $#@!, just as you'd expect.
I haven't been to Auschwitz, but I was at a similar KZ-camp in Germany - and yes, it is indeed depressing. Is it just me, or does it seem weird that all the teams are going to Auschwitz just days before their first game?

I'm with you. But I think it will be crucial to score an early opener, to give the squad the feeling, that it is working out and going along just fine.
