No one else wanted the job
All the top coaches are in a sense complicit in this failure. They took lucrative club jobs over representing their nation. The squad is good and with a good manager would have done well. Conte did well with a very mediocre squad compared to this one. I hope this horrible result galvanizes the team and gives them huge anger to do well in the future. I also hope the coaches who were watching at home feel a sense of duty and desire to help make this team great again. Its sad these players, old and new will miss the world cup. It is important for the FIGC to hire a new coach immediately to help create a new hope and optimism around the team. Regardless of whether Ventura resigns or not a new coach needs to be hired. Ventura is a irrelevant fool. Many of us could have easily set this team up better than Ventura did. A fantasy football autodraft program could have as well.

If anyone can produce an abundance of last-minute miracles and excitement it's the USMNT

Poor Jorginho, being lumped in with the other players

TBH I don’t blame the players as much as I blame the FIGC and Ventura. This Italy squad was better than the one Conte took to the QF of the Euros last year.

Heads need to roll after this debacle, the biggest eve eembarrassment in Italian football IMO. Let’s see if Italy is a serious country or not. I have my doubts.

I don't blame the players after all. They did what they could given the circumstances I feel. It seems they were just as confused and annoyed as we were with all the news coming out.

I am so depressed

How can every single human being except Ventura know what to do? It wasn't hard

Juventus / Nazionale is one of my 3 loves, and when they hurt I hurt, and I want to kill myself right now

Gigi, this isnt how this story was supposed to end. I HATE how this had to happen to you.

I love you

I hope Ventura rots in eternal hell

Still no word on why Insigne was not put in let alone started ??? Unreal, just unreal

To think I will also also will probably never see Claudio play a meaningful Naz game ever again

Unreal

How did we allow to watch Darmian toss 100 terrible balls into the middle of the field for 70 minutes?

What functioning human being does not react to that?

Honestly, who the fuck cares about the US qualifying for the World Cup? They're an irrelevant country in footballing terms. No non-American is likely to say "OMFG! Murica didn't make it. This world cup isn't worth watching ."

In any case, this is the Azzurri thread, so by default, no one gives a shit about the USMNT. Italy and Holland are two colossal losses, but they didn't deserve to be there. They simply weren't good enough, and paid the price for it.

First USA then Italy. just fuck my shit up

Will now root for Germans because they are most likeable of big teams. If they win then at least France, England, Spain, Portufags, Brazil and Messi don't win.

Have to say the Italian fans at the San Siro and the players really gave it a good try against Sweden. But seriously F@(K Tavecchio and Ventura. Useless. Especially Ventura in this match. 1-0 down on aggregrate in a 2 legged match, you shouldn't even be considering bringing on De Rossi as a sub. In the end, we saw Insigne, one of Italy's most creative players play 15 minutes (as a CM!!!) over 2 legs. Seriously bullsh1t

I think the hiring of Ventura has to be questioned right from the get go. The guy was a provincial coach whose only title is a Serie C tital.

Problem now is, guys like Mancini, Ancelotti, Conte or whoever else is being linked may not want to take the job knowing that the next tournament is the Euros in 2 years time. In hindsight it would have been better to have Conte for the world cup rather than the Euros.

I really doubt Ancelotti, Conte or even Mancini would want to take the job right now. My guess is we will end up with a 4th or 5th choice.

At least the Euros is expanded meaning we should qualifty for that at least!
