Maybe he is. But why did Prandelli pick Aquapussy when he benched Marchisio? Or subbed in Cerci or Giovinco instead of Diamanti?

Or played Thiago Motta or Montolivio as his treq when using a system that required one?

Seems to me like he doesn't rate Diamanti.

prandelli's squad selection has been nothing short of baffling at times, i just don't understand what the likes of Gilardino and aquilani offer?
I agree but which Italians would be worthy of those spots? Bear in mind that Osvaldo was dropped and Verratti was in Isreal.

Aquilani used to be a good player and at times he has done well for Nazionale, trying him out didn't hurt anyone, it's Confederations Cup. I don't really care who wins it and honestly, I've no idea who won it in 2009, only remember G.Rossi scoring against USA.

well i would have taken Matri over Gilardino for sure, Ogbonna over astori another. Had it not have been for the u21 championship i would have dropped aquilani for verratti, taken Insigne, and possibly gabbiadini as well. But seriously when Prandelli has the likes of Marco Sau selected ahead of Matri who in fairness didn't have a bad season and certainly more experienced at higher level question marks surrounding prandelli's selection comes to mind. I'd have probably taken a punt on Santon as well, im still not convinced by de sciglio despite the praise.

Gilardino shouldn't be surprising, given his familiarity with the player and the lack of Italian centre forvets. The young ones aren't international standard yet.
give me Pazzini over Gilardino any day. This is not 2006 anymore .... Gilardino is to Prandelli what Iaquinta was to Lippi.... Waste of roster spots, rather take an SS with quality over a useless CF.. :andyandbarcelona:

by the way Insigne and Veratti should have been on this team, giving them the confidence, and experience to play in a tournamnet like this with the senior team. Both Veratti and Insigne have bright futures, hopefully our federation doesnt FK them up.... If they were Spanish they would be stars by now.

I would rather have Totti behind Balotelli than Montolivio or Aquilani. Di Natale will be called up next year. We have no issues in midfiled and attack, its this 4 man back line and I dont see any one from U21 who is even close to stepping up either.

Matri, really? A bench player from Juve -who's scoring record is inferior too- instead of a starter in Bologna who had a good season. I'm not saying Gilardino is the right choice, but I can understand.

The others were in Isreal, so you cannot blame Prandelli for that.
