undoubtedly so, I initially assumed were looking to splurge on a new car, which is why I mentioned the carrera s.
one other thing to keep in mind with the m6 though - there is a pretty big difference in the engine type/power and fuel economy between the v10, naturally aspirated engine in the 2010 m6 and the twin-turbo, v8 in the 2012 version. The latter is 50-60 hp more and delivers about 40% or so better fuel economy.
My point is, depending on your preferences, the 2012 model would be a year old in about half a year

. Then again, if you want a naturally aspirated v10 over a TT v8, then you don't really have a choice
maybe you've already considered it but I would still mention checking how are the prices going on a 1-2 year old sl550 - I'd expect it to be a better handling car and even a bigger head-turner even if not quite as powerful as the m6 but no slouch either (talking about the regular, non-AMG version here).
you might wanna consider also a smaller sports coupe (way cheaper, better handling, better fuel economy but just as fast due to lower curb weight) like the M3 or maybe even the Audi S5.
Good luck in your car-hunt. it sure can be fun

true but not as much as one might think - the big weight is a deciding factor there, more so than the slightly stiffer tuned suspension you'd get in the m6. In general the M6 is more of a luxury coup with a powerful engine attached to it and is not designed to be a top performer from the ground up (very much like the CL coupes by MB) ... handling, superior weight distribution were not at the top of their to do list, it seems to me.
Also, as deneb, mentioned the stiffer suspension will hurt the ride comfort/quality of the car, which I think would be high on the list of someone going for a car like that. All in all, making cars like the CL AMG and the m6-series more sporty by dumping a bigger engine and stiffer shocks in them feels like an awfully artificial way of turning a car into something it wasn't exactly designed to be.
