Yes I do. Vidal did neither correctly. Neither did he block the cross, nor did he close him down to prevent the opportunity for Ledesma to even think of crossing. Whatever he did was enough to give Lazio a goal.

Sheik is right in saying if we played a higher line defence and more pressure game, the way Lazio did for the majority of first half and start of 2nd half, Ledesma wouldn't have had the time to pick that pass:However; judging by the way we've played in most part of this season, Conte's been asking for zonal defending (due to Chiello's absence and players fatigue and one of the reason that it may seem we play with less intensity this year), you can't really fault Vidal for covering the space around our box and marking Mauri who happened to be there, therefore it was mostly the fault of Peluso (not being close to bonbon) and Giacch for not staying with gonzalez.

Also, when we got 5 players in the defensive line, then it doesn't make sense to blame Giaccherini for tracking Gonzales when it was the job of one of the defenders, namely Peluso here, to do so. And judging as Giacch was in the midfield at the time of that move, it's totally uncharacteristic of him to chase a player who is running towards the center of defence. Not to mention it's useless doing that because Giacc was in no position to make any difference against such a high cross. I fail to see how Giacc could've influenced the outcome in any way. Maybe if this was a pass along the ground, maybe. But a well-placed aerial pass that even Peluso could do nothing against? There is no legitimate reason to blame Giachherini for this.

And all the while you're doing this, you fail to acknowledge the very simple task of a midfielder like Vidal: closing down another midfielder. Vidal could've very easily influenced the play by preventing the cross and averting the danger. Yet you want to ignore this and blame Giaccherini. Ridiculous!

And I've shown why Giacc cannot be at fault for not tracking Gonzalez. There were already 5 players in our defence line, and Giacc, along with Padoin and Vidal formed the midfield line covering the penalty area. Even if he did track him, there is NOTHING Giacc could've done. He certainly couldn't have pressured Gonzalez into making a mistake or clearing the ball. First, cos he's really short, and second, that cross was inch perfect. There is NOTHING he could've done to prevent the goal.

Giach didn't "wander off". He held the midfield line along with Vidal and Padoin in front of the penalty area. Even if he tracked Gonzales, I fail to see what he could've done to prevent the goal. That cross was inch perfect. Neither could Giacc put Gonzales off nor could he head the cross away. What is he supposed to do that is so crucial to defending the cross that you blame him more than Vidal?

If Ledesma saw Vidal running at him at 100% his brain would then tell him that Vidal is out of control and will either jump at the cross or be unable to change direction because he is a human, not a feline. Then Ledesma would perform a fake and go around Vidal.

From there, Ledesma would be able to have a direct shot at our goal from the edge of the box, in the center of the field. That is extremely bad.

In hindsight, I'm sure Vidal would run at Ledesma and kick him straight in the face.
