Padoin was in position, marking Konko. Isla was playing on the other side of the pitch. Marrone closed down the player (Hernanes I think) who passed it to Ledesma (who then played it over the top to Gonzalez). He maybe should've gotten a tackle in but at least he closed him down. Vidal gave Ledesma way too much time and space to play the ball over the top.

Giaccerini is also at fault for the goal IMO. He didn't even seem to notice Gonzalez running away from him and into the box unmarked. Midfielders have to track runs from the opposition's midfield. Then of course Peluso should have made at least some attempt to jump for the ball. He should also have been alert to Gonzalez arriving into the box behind him, but you can see that he was looking at the run of Mauri (who Bonucci completely lost by the way. Mauri was wide open in the middle of the box).

A fuck up all round really, but I blame Giaccherini the most. He had to either track Gonzalez's run or at least give Peluso a shout that he was making the run.
sorry but i stopped reading there

Nope. But I did point out he failed to close down the crosser for the first goal. I honestly find him more at fault for that goal than Peluso.
I'd hold Giaccherini and Peluso more responsible that Vidal for that.

You might have wanted more pressure on the ball, but Ledesma wasn't really in a dangerous position.

Giaccherini should have been tracking the run of Gonzalez, what with him being his direct opponent, and Peluso should have reacted more quickly to the run when it was apparent Giaccherini wasn't tracking it.

If you can't track a player you should call his run so another guy (Peluso) can track him. We'll probably never know if the run was called but it sure looked like Peluso was absolutely confident that the ball was continuing over the line.

I think it was a slightly awkward play to defend. It wasn't a typical place to play such a ball from. And Lazio somehow queued up quite a few runs into the box while the ball was in the center of the pitch. Really unusual for such an attack on the net from there. Usually that ball comes from the wings.

I think everyone was caught off guard and then, of course, a sublime ball and finish.

a sublime ball and finish.
There's always that.

The seconds after the goal I was thinking about how the Peluso-sperging would commence on this board and how, if Juve had scored that goal, we'd all be jerking it to how great a move it was and not thinking for a second about the oppo defense making a mistake.

Are you kidding me? Vidal should've closed down that player much better. That cross should never have taken place.

And what was Giaccherini supposed to do really? That cross was inch perfect. There was nothing anyone could've done, let alone a diminutive player like Giacc.

Prevention is better than cure. Vidal should've prevented that cross.

Giaccherini should have tracked his direct opponent.

I may not have blamed him particularly if he'd tracked the run and been out-muscled/beaten by the good ball, but he still has to track his man.

Seriously...

Could have Vidal challenge the cross? Maybe, probably yes.
Should an attacker be so free next to the goalie? No
Was the goalkeeper on a bad position? Yes

I know. You are not going to see me disputing that. However, the guy covers so much ground, has so much heart and fight, that when he does make certain errors, you can't help but forgive him given his overall contribution. After all, without him, we wouldn't even have stood a chance of pushing the game into extra time.

Who says I'm not forgiving him? I'm merely pointing out that he was at fault for our first goal. A valid criticism.
