Arthur is replacing Pjanic whom many loved. It will not be easy to win everyone over. And honestly so far he still has a lot to prove. But I believe he can be great for us for years to come, he just need more players around him who can also play football and support him defensively and offensively with movement.
Can't say I ever really took to pjanic, if anything im glad he's gone now, his last 2 seasons with Juve were pathetic, clearly doing nothing for barca either.

Arthur is and never was a pure regista, this is why Bentancur is important to the system as he's better suited to that role. It's no secret that Arthur would prefer to play further forward.
That is precisely what I'm trying to say. Arthur has shown some really good signs in the last month or so playing a bit higher up. I have nothing against him as a player, I simply think his weaknesses become more apparent when he's forced to play in this deeper role. Next summer we need to sign a player who is comfortable playing in that deeper role.

The comparison is based on their lack of defensive qualities, I find it funny how people seem to pick on Arthur's lack of defensive capability, hell if it makes you or anyone feel better he's still better than pjanic was defensively.
It doesnt make me feel better, I dont get kicks out of it. Pirlo could compensate lack of defensive contribution with his vision, passing range, ability to control the game. Arthur has neither of it but he can do well with his set of skills here. Holding the ball under pressure, dribbling out of tight spaces, moving the ball forward quickly, which he has been doing more recently. What Im trying to say, Arthur is different in every way to Pirlo and he is operating at a lower level, isnt as impactful but he can be useful to us if he continues with recent performances. I just found Pirlo comparison strange, hes more Xavi type of player.

holding ball under pressure is vital for this team. we saw how badly this team concedes on counters. especially how bad bentancur and rabiot play together.

it's good for this pirlo system to have a player to play deep that can hold on to ball. even if he can't pass ball long ball, he can open space by running with ball and drawing players away.

For someone who misses Juve matches, im surprised you're right.

Pirlo was lightweight defensively, infact he was far worse than Arthur, didn't stop him being part of one of the best midfield units this club has ever seen. If anything Arthur played a number of progressive passes today, he still maintains fluency and he draws players thus creating space for the rest of the players.
Pirlo had the passing and vision that compensated for him being 'lightweight' defensively. If Arthur has to be a success here, he needs to massively improve in this aspect. Just being good at retaining at the ball or making 1 meter sideways/backward passes is not going to transform him into a great midfielder.

Xavi was the best at ball retention and recycling possession. Iniesta was a better dribbler and more agile that allowed him to get past players more often.
Calling Arthur a poor man's Xavi is pretty apt at this point.
players like xavi and pirlo are a once in a lifetime sort of players. like ronaldo or messi are to the forvet positions. so calling arthur a poor man's xavi is not bad by any means in my opinion.

if he continues like this he can be a really good player. even coming off bench when up by one goal to relief pressure.

I think he has the potential to grow into a top midfielder. He's obviously not there yet, but I'm starting to like him.

Needs to play in a better midfield trio though. I don't really understand Pirlo's initial words about our midfielders all being best in a duo.

Clearly on the right path for the past few weeks and started showing more often glimpses of what he is really capable of, hopefully it’s going to be a steady growth process from here on as we definitely need a CM with his set of skills available and in form.
