If you're a Juve supporter, you know and think about these things as well, so when we're linked with a young, fast defender, we can't do anything but hope and pray that Moggi makes it happen. The latest information here is that according to the Italian media Gonzalo's arrival to Juventus is a fact. The operation would cost 4 millions dollars, 3 millions of which would come to San Lorenzo.arty: We certainly need that money! :greedy: Though personally I was expecting a bit more taking into account Gonzalo's quality and constant room for improvement. Yet, some other newspapers here say it's 4 millions euros. Either they think 1 euro is still equal to 1 dollar or they handle different sources. I'm also sure our National Team coach, Marcelo Bielsa, must be wishing the same, otherwise he won't have Gonzalo for the Pre-Olympic Tournament starting on January the 7th, 2004. Hi guys, I'm new here but some of you might know me from another board. Hi magosantana81, I knew about the interest in this player a couple of days ago and I just learned that the discussions stoped and now AS Roma will try to get Rodriguez. San Lorenzo waits for Juve's reply. If they start a bidding war Juve never ends up with the player. But if Roma are interested, then he's gonna play for Juve.

Thank you! I get what he meant now. Yeah, if you ask me, there should also be a leaguetied rule if you know what I mean. For instance, I can't stand either when on most leagues (including the Argentinean one) due to the transfers book (what's the actual English for this?) being closed once the competition has started (generally after three or four rounds*). I remember not long ago a player started the first two rounds in one team and then he was transferred to another one where he began playing in the third round. An to make matters worse, his new team hadn't played his old one so you can imagine how upset his ex club supporters were to see him on another team.
* I know this word is used more for Cups and Eliminatory Tournaments rather than for Leagues. So what other word is there? Or you have to say Day 1 Games... Day 19 Games... and so on?

I knew someone would be asking me about this. I'm sorry, I just couldn't come up with the appropriate words. I guess I'll have to learn more soccer vocabulary these days. What I was trying to say is that Gonzalo usually likes, and is very good at, dominating the ball and going out of the box without just rejecting it or sending a long high ball, unlike more rusty players like Paolo Montero who tend to limit themselves to doing the last thing. Do you understand? He prefers making short accurate passes rather than kicking the ball the highest and longest he can and praying on the strikers to capture it... And you will see that as he gets more and more confident, he will even take more risks and try to choose more difficult or awkward passing lanes...
I understand your concern, and it's a legitimate one. But sometines you have to understand that age is not a crucial factor for all players. It depends on their character and strong will. If I'm not wrong, there's a 19-year-old central defender from Paraguay (can't remember his name... Mareco maybe?) playing in Brescia's first team and he's doing pretty well. Yes, I know you can't compare Brescia to Juve but it's a fair example, though.
Anyway, as I said before, my only concern about Juve giving Gonzalo on loan to another team is that then they kinda forget about their players on loan as they keep buying and buying other players... Besides, they could think that if they lend Gonzalo to, let's say, Empoli, he will have to solve all the problems of that team defense. And if he doesn't do that, he will be considered a failure, and it isn't that way. One sole defender alone can't carry all the defense on his shoulders!

Again, I was almost sure that someone would ask me about our gifted playmaker, Leandro Pipi Romagnoli, as soon as I said that I was a San Lorenzo fan. Well, as you must know, he suffered probably the worst injury any footballer can have, to break his crossed ligaments of the knee. I'm sure that translation is awful . Do you know the exact English for this? To give you a hint, it's the same injury Ronaldo suffered twice or three times....
Well, this is the second time Romagnoli has suffered that injury on the same (right) knee. It happened in mid May as he was running after the ball (yes, he was injured all alone, no clash againt a player or something, unlike the first time), he went under another surgery the week after and since then he has been on recovery. Right now he's ready to start pre-season training with the rest of his teammates.
Yes, I was well aware that Romagnoli had been eyed by a lot of Italian teams ever since his first appearance in our first team. First it was Milan (which was said to be willing to offer 10 million dollars), then it was Napoli (looking after the next Maradona maybe? ) and finally Udinese, this year. You won't believe this but Udinese actually made an offer in the middle of this year (during the Italian off-season) while Romagnoli was still in recovery! This was a real surprise even to our own board because Udinese actually didn't have a clue in what state Leandro was, whether he could ever play again or not. For your information, last year the Servette from Switzerland was also interested in Romagnoli but was in two minds because after they made Leandro travel to their club to have him checked by their doctors, the results weren't statisfactory enough. As I see it, that was bullshit from the Swiss club, probably to allow themselves to make a lower counter-offer if you know what I mean...
The thing is that Udinese was even offering Romagnoli to continue with his recovery sessions in Italy. Now that I dig more in my momory, I think their offer was to borrow him for 1 year for 600.000 dollars. Leandro ended up rejecting the offer because he preferred recovering at home, with his family, friends and teammates. But what surprised everybody most was that they wouldn't be able to use him for the first 6 months yet they were still interested in him. Obviously, they still consider him a true star, regardless of his recent injuries.
Another club that has also showed interest in Romagnoli is Bayern Leverkusen. That's right, in mid 2000 they wanted to get both our playmaker (Romagnoli) and goal-getter, Bernardo Romeo, currently in the HSV (Hamburg). If I had to describe him in a few words for those who haven't seen him play, he's your typical number 10 playmaker with the best dribbling skills you can find! He can dribble as many players as he wants. Dribbling is not a problem for him. And when he's on the mood and it's HIS day, NOONE can stop him. Not even Gonzalo . I tell you, not even Pablo Aimar has this guy's dribbiling skills. In my opinion, he has everything to succeed abroad. Maybe his only flaw is free-kicks. That is something he could improve...

The guy is good, has skills but as I see it he's enjoying too much our press campaign to find the new Maradona, if you know what I mean. For the media, it seems as if he's the only player that is beat by defenders. They always shout: "Take care of Tévez, please, one day they will break him!"... While other guys like our Romagnoli or Aimar used to be beat way before Tévez and noone seemed to care, let alone, complain. For you to understand why I say there's a pro-Tévez campaign, he has just been awarded MVP of our last tournament and he only played half of the competition for God's sake!!!
Of all those three you mentioned, I prefer Riquelme, despite his usual reluctance to mark and help his mates defend when the team loses the ball.
D'Alessandro is good, but again he used to be the other hyped-up star before Tévez's appearance. I call these players "cartoon stars". Again, I'm not saying they are bad, just way too hyped up!
I though you Juve fans were very happy with Trezeguet. Doesn't he score every game?
As for Cavenaghi, yeah, he can spend the whole match as if he wasn't really in the game à la Romario, but then at the drop of a hat he scores! You described him perfectly well. BUT, in the last year he has improved and can also get out of the box and create plays for his teammates. He is a bit slow but has a good technique and believe me when I say that he's a GREAT free kicker! Also, he rarely misses a penalty.
Yeah, it's good... But, between you and me, many San Lorenzo fans believe that it brings bad luck on the team. HA! Aye, I know it sounds crazy but it's a loooooooong story.

The guy is good, has skills but as I see it he's enjoying too much our press campaign to find the new Maradona, if you know what I mean. For the media, it seems as if he's the only player that is beat by defenders. They always shout: "Take care of Tévez, please, one day they will break him!"... While other guys like our Romagnoli or Aimar used to be beat way before Tévez and noone seemed to care, let alone, complain.
For you to understand why I say there's a pro-Tévez campaign, he has just been awarded MVP of our last tournament and he only played half of the competition for God's sake!!! Of all those three you mentioned, I prefer Riquelme, despite his usual reluctance to mark and help his mates defend when the team loses the ball.
D'Alessandro is good, but again he used to be the other hyped-up star before Tévez's appearance. I call these players "cartoon stars". Again, I'm not saying they are bad, just way too hyped up!

As for Cavenaghi, yeah, he can spend the whole match as if he wasn't really in the game à la Romario, but then at the drop of a hat he scores! You described him perfectly well. BUT, in the last year he has improved and can also get out of the box and create plays for his teammates. He is a bit slow but has a good technique and believe me when I say that he's a GREAT free kicker! Also, he rarely misses a penalty.
Yeah, it's good... But, between you and me, many San Lorenzo fans believe that it brings bad luck on the team. HA! Aye, I know it sounds crazy but it's a loooooooong story.
