One FIFA agent has backed Antonio Conte in his decision to not continue with Juventus, calling it a mark of his 'professionalism’.
The 44-year-old parted ways with the Bianconeri in just the second day of pre-season, to be replaced quickly by Massimiliano Allegri.
Rumours have focused on the reasons behind the split, but one FIFA agent says even in the surprise, the motivations may be honest.
“Obviously it was a surprise, absolutely I did not expect it,” Egidio Robertazzo has told TuttoJuve.com today.
“But it was understood that at the end of last season he was brooding over something. Conte is a Coach who must be convinced in order to give 100 per cent, otherwise he cannot work as he has.
“With this decision he has once again demonstrated a high sense of professionalism, he was not convinced and he preferred to take a step back like a true professional.
“He did not do it, for me, because he had another offer in hand, but simply because for him to do well he needed new stimuli after three seasons as a winner.”
Speculation has been that Juve wanted to sell one from Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal and this led to Conte’s decision.
“If this is the reason then he did well to resign. If you want to continue to win in Italy and maybe even in Europe, you cannot deprive yourself of names such as Vidal and Pogba.
“Assume that they raise €50m in selling one of them, then they must go out and find another midfielder to replace them with and in the current market a great midfielder cannot be found for less than €35m-€40m, so on this point it is better to keep Pogba and Vidal.
“Then, if the €50m is used to balance the budget then it is another matter, but then you cannot expect to retain Conte, who allowed you to win three years in a row.
“As he said, you cannot eat with €10 at a restaurant that charges €100.”
