Too much stuff in the Italian press for there not to be something going on.

Of course, we don't actually know what Conte's thinking is behind a potential change of system.

The assumption is that Juve's recent poor defensive record or the injury to Lichtsteiner (and the lack of faith in Isla and Padoin) has prompted the change, but you can't discount the possibility that the plan was always to plan with a back four when playing a game like this.

This is really the first game Juve have faced that could give clues as to what Conte learned from the games against Bayern.

Maybe he decided a back three/five just isn't appropriate for games against very strong opponents who play with pacy wingers.

I agree. Beside that, its not impossible Juve have been studying and training this formation for a longer period now. You never know.

Just when doubt started to creep into my mind about Conte, he pulls me back in. This is exactly when you change formation because any good coach would see we have no fucking chance with the out of form 3-5-2 vs. Madrid so rather than going down with the ship, Conte is showing some balls.

And as a matter of fact Chiellini said something similar today. They've been practicing 4 man defense in training regularly.

Ronaldo and bale would have to be handled without space in the back of the defender. They are simply to fast for us to face without in form licht and asamoah. one is injured the other in halfdecent form.
So a back 4 makes sense, as the fullbacks can now remain relatively deep.
Having pogba and vidal on the sides of the central midfield, is an additional buffer here.

Having marchisio as CAM allows disrupting of their holding midfielders, where real creativity comes from.

and tevez-llorente in front of that, should gear up for a pretty good pressing game if conte wants to

A lot of respect for this man, finally stopped being an arrogant ass and changed the formation and players. I just wish he would have done this earlier.

We go out its on Conte's head. I only hope he learns from his mistakes and comes back a bit more intellegent person.
