The only thing we know for certain is that he still hasn't reached a deal to prolong the contract and that it's dragging on. Also, several sources have reported his 5 million / year wage-request for some time. In my opinion, all of this points in the direction of him having a received a concrete offer from someone else (most probably Chelsea). I do think we need to pay him the 5 million per year to keep hold of him.

And that's the easy part. The hard part is to continue convincing him of the sporting-project. If you look at Conte's recent statements to the press, it's evident that he's really keen on landing a top player for the striker position. But the way I see it, we're in no position to land players like Ibra and perhaps not even Sanchez.

And that's the only reason he'd leave us. Because we really can't (for the foreseeable future anyway) afford these sorts of players. I just hope he has the burning desire in him to want to win at least one CL with us before he leaves.

Yeah, we just need to take one step at a time now, with him. Hopefully we can convince him to stay short-term. And that somehow, during that time, we are able to bring a couple of players of immense quality to the club. I don't see it being by paying big for already established world stars, but rather smart signings sort of like Napoli signing Cavani when he was fairly unknown or Bayern München signing Mandzukic.

Not only does he deserve a pay rise, he must demand guarantees that this project is moving forward both ways. I absolutely applaud such a decision on his side. I see it as absolutely fantastic on his side as it states professional ambitions before personal gains.

If we were to be moving forward we shouldn't be too concerned with things in Italy. Winning there, without success in Europe would mean very little for our development. One strategy I think would be fantastic is moulding a team of quality first team players and promising youngsters so that by the time Seria A is competitive we would have a young, cheap squad and buy only a player we consider a solid improvement. I've hoped Marotta is trying to do that with his 100 youngsters and not only trade them like monopoly cards...

While being in the Coppa Italia's final and progressed till the QF of EL. Not too shabby for them.
Indeed, they don't have enough depth to compete in Serie A as well, while they were doing good till some point. Like Schalke failed in Bundesliga when they terrorized in the CL. Fiorentina also fell in Serie A after reaching CL (group stages). So looking at the whole season I'd say it was pretty decent.

if he want to win CL first he need to make this team played like the 1st 6 months he started here because not even ronaldo-messi-falcao combo will make us win CL if we play that slow and passive that we ended out possessed twice against celtic.
