Does putting in an attacking sub guarantee us a goal? Haven't you seen Del Piero hold the ball countless number of times in the last 10 mins trying to hold a lead? Why doesn't he try to attack? When you can't run, you hold and you take your chances defending. They put in three attackers in the end, one counter attack would have killed us. We had better chances trying to protect the lead than extend it.
It does not guarantee us a goal, but it certainly increases the possibility of scoring one. Fiorentina's defense was a joke tonight. A tired Matri was causing them havoc back there, imagine a fresh pair of legs. Most of the time, the best defending is to keep attacking.

Not what I intended to point out. The point is that always attacking would not guarantee us a goal. In the situation we were today, it was better to have defensive players than out and out offensive players.
Of course not but you'd force them to defend rather than helping them get into your box:smile:

Our midfield was knackered in the end, Pirlo was going out of his mind with fatigue. He even tried to nutmeg someone in front of our D. The only person who had some fuel left was Vidal, and I think he even ran out of reserve. Everyone makes it sound as if we sat back and defended. We did no such thing. We had people who were capable defensively on the pitch rather than out and out offensive player.
If he had made his subs earlier I would have been singing a different tune, but the subs he made at the time he did, were the right ones. Pepe is the only RW available who's not Krasic. On the left he put in Esti instead of Vucinic. Del Piero can't play there without having to change the formation (which would have been stupid at that point), Quag hasn't seen a pitch in god knows how long and Elia, well Esti seems to be higher in the pecking order for whatever reason. He replaced Vidal with another CM.

Of course not but you'd force them to defend rather than helping them get into your box:smile:
One mistake would have left us with having to deal with a counter attack where they had three attackers, two of them fresh out of the oven, to make us pay. I liked how Pirlo and Esti worked together in the dying minutes to hold the ball and gain fouls instead of rushing into the box missing chances and giving the ball away.

We'll probably never agree, so lets leave it at that. My wife's asleep, lets make out :klin: Klin bring your eyebrows!

Conte rues wasted chances

Antonio Conte has only one complaint about the Juventus performance this evening. “Those wasted chances...”
The Bianconeri dominated their victory over Fiorentina, particularly the first half, but only scraped a 2-1 result.

“I tried to keep the concentration levels up. After a first half like that it was just not possible to be only 1-0 up with the game wide open, especially as they equalised with their first opportunity,” said the Coach.

“Fortunately we were able to get back on track and react to take the victory, so I praise my lads for that.

“The only regrets are for those wasted chances... We have to grow a great deal, but this squad has the quality to do that. Tonight’s performance against a good side like Fiorentina showed we are improving.”

I'm not in a mood for such a talk right now as I'm very sleepy, but I like how you closed your post. :klin:

Knowing Antonio Conte’s character it’s easy to imagine that he would not have been fully satisfied at the end of the first-half. There was no doubting the quality of Juve’s performance but having watched his side fail to extend their lead, the manager displayed his disappointment in the dressing room: “I looked to keep the tension high because after a first-half like that you can’t leave the game open. In fact, we were punished at the beginning of the second-half. But thankfully we did well in regaining control.”

In addition to the first-half, in which Juventus dominanted from start to finish, there was another positive aspect from tonight’s game – the ability to come back following Fiorentina’s equaliser: “Today’s game represents an important step in our development process because we played with character, intensity and showed battling qualities. There might be an element of regret for not making the most of the opportunities carved out in the first-half, but regaining the lead was very positive. The lads deserve this satisfaction and I need to congratulate them because they read the game extremely well.”

The return to 4-2-3-1, with Vidal coming back from injury and Vucinic moving wide, paid dividends: “This tactical setup improves our quality. Vidal is a player who provides great intensity and pressure and when these kind of players are available, it’s right to adapt your own ideas to their characteristics.”

Conte rubbished suggestions of the squad losing their way after recent results: “You can’t talk about a squad in crisis for drawing twice after beating Milan. Instead, I notice that my players are finding their balance and they’re not affected by neither criticism nor praise.”

Tonight’s three points see the Bianconeri go back to the top of the table, having played one game more than their rivals. Next week, Conte’s men will travel to Milan to play Ranieri’s Inter: “They’re a great team, they're a strong group and it’s inevitable that my thoughts have already turned to that game,” underlined Conte. “At the end of the match I reminded my players of this, the correct move in order to avoid wasting time…”

I'm loving this guy, I tell you. He still has some points to improve, but judging by his constant evolution and perception of what's going on, I guess he'll just handle his problems sooner or later.

And thank you, mister Conte, for creating one of the best midfields in the world. Really. It's a joy to watch such a trio.

Got huge respect for Conte. He came with his favored 4-2-4(442) formation, made Pirlo work harder to fit in, but then changed it to fit 3 of our best players in midfield. And doing it even though it would cut down ADP/Quags playing time.

After 4 years of bs, we finally have a coach in total Control with the board's backing.
