Can anyone tell me were Conte's Bari and Siena teams expected to be promoted as they had superior squads than the other Serie B teams or was their promotion all down to Conte's football and their his achievement?

Their squads wasn't superior, but they were good compared to most Serie B teams. What Conte did wasn't a sensation, but it was good craftsmanship.

Thanks.

I assumed he was just the Serie B version of Mancini and Inter with any coach being able to win with that squad at their disposal.

but far more better looking of course :D
Like all relegated teams Siena were expected to make a promotion push, but it's easier said than done. He had some good players but also went about it the right way, kept on attacking.

I can't comment yet on Conte as a coach and how he'll do, but I can comment his idea to pass more, move more, spread the ball wide and completely change the style, despite not changing the formation.
That's of course a good idea and it remains to be seen how it's gonna be implemented.

With the players we had last year it won't work at all. Especially our central midfielders (except Marchisio, I think) could not play such game. Now, adding a big star like Aguero and sacrificing 2-3 positions for that was not gonna change our style and it was gonna be tougher to implement Conte's ideas. Naturally, if Aguero's purchase was not gonna stand in the way of buying the other needed players it was gonna be a plus, but I doubt it would have so I'm with Moggi on this one.

Vidal is most similar to Marchisio from our last season's midfield and he also fits well with the plan. Vucinic will fit like a glove. Pirlo will be instrumental in the system with his passing. The defense will also add a lot to this game if our new defenders are good playing the ball on the ground (Licht is good in this respect). It's of huge importance to add another midfielder who can play this game (be it a winger or a CM).

Lots can change till September but I think we can see how things are shaping and so far I like it, I like the idea and I think it will work. The market seems terrible after missing out on stars, but I feel it's a blessing in disguise that we didn't splash the money on one player. That way we'd have been more similar to last year's team than if we buy more players who'll be very good players (like Vucinic and Vidal are) AND fit the system and Conte's good idea how should Juve play.

It does seem kinda shitty missing out on a top class player though, Alen. These top players can slot themselves into any team on the planet including Conte's 442 and his passing style. The only difference is that these players can change a game on a dime. We really missed the chance to bring a top striker, something this club has needed for a long time to replace Del Piero. Without a players of this calibre we are just another really strong Udinese/Napoli without the players that make the difference in winning trophies, etc.

I'd be happy with Mirko, especially since we missed literally everyone else. My favorite would be Jovetic, man he would be a class signing IMO.

I'll quote Sacchi here, "Marotta shouldn't get Conte the best players in the world, but the best players who fits his formation and tactics."
We still need on WC player to lead this team, make us seem more attractive and make the difference a game or two when the team just isn't clicking. Just like DP has for so many years. I don't buy this argument one bit.

But the WC player can fit Conte's system ;)

For instance, Sanchez over Aguero.

I don't think Sacchi meant that Juve should get 10 mediocre fuckers as long as they fit Conte's plans, but the best players available for Conte's formation, instead of just a "champion".

I know what Sacchi meant. These players can easily fit into this team or any other team in Europe. That isn't the problem. I see why Pirlo was brought and Vidal as well. Not WC players but players that will make this formation work. We still need a WC striker that can literally terrorize a defense on his own and make his own goals, create goals, give us a third attacking dimension rather than just relying on 2 wingers. Juventus would not have been what it was the last 15 years without a player like Ale, it just wouldn't have been without a player of this caliber to connect the dots.

We needed a Sanchez, Kun, etc. We really did, now we have to rely on Quag and Matri. LOL

Of course we need a world class player. More than one actually.

At this point in time for Juve, when we can't get such players, it's better to buy very good players who fit the system (Vucinic for 15 + Vidal for 10 + Licht for 10 + Vargas for 12-13) instead Aguero for 45 and keep Iaquinta instead of Vuci, Sissoko instead of Vidal, Motta instead of Licht and Pepe instead of Vargas. My point is, as good as Aguero is he alone, playing alongside Pepes, Martinezs, Mottas and the likes, was not gonna change as much as replacing those idiots with good players is going to change.
If Aguero doesn't stand in the way of buying 3-4 very good players, then of course everyone would prefer him to Rossi or Vucinic.

But it's futile to discuss it since we obviously can not attract Aguero or players like him so we should go for the best available.

Same goes for Rossi. Buying him for 30m and sacrificing important positions in the team for Rossi is lunacy. I don't even rate Rossi higher than Vucinic, but even if I did rate him slightly better, I'd always choose Vucinic for 15+Vargas for 12+Lugano for 3 instead of splashing 30 for Rossi.
