I heard it the first time in an interview with a juventus player, waaay back.
"Where would players be without football ? Well nearly a dozen of the squad, wouldnt have gotten past a basic job. At least 5 would probably have struggled to finish high school. Perhaps 4-5 could have tried college and 1-2 at most might have succeded at university. Thuram was named as one who could have done that. He was not just intelligent, but a known spirited (correct) and intellectual person, who read quite a lot and valued the mind in general, and the aspects and positions of/in society".
I've always remembered this about Thuram. That and those pictures of him with reading glasses when the team flew somewhere, reading serious literature.
Intelligent beeings arent neccecary intellectual. But beeing an intellectual requires a certain amount of intelligence. My thinking isnt complete or socially challenging enough to even consider myself an intellectual. But the way that guy roasted me, gave me the need to show, i'm not quite stupid either.
Vidal, is a player i loved at juve. All heard. I dont really mind if a person isnt smart. People who arent that smart tend to show true honesty. And i value that alot in a person.
Vidal, is not intelligent, but quite the opposite. I dont mind. I forgive him for his moronic comments about juve, because he's honest and doesnt understand what he said is not good.
What the shit is wrong with embracing the fact a person is stupid ? Doesnt make them a lesser person.
