Not disputing that, but people act as if it's severely lagging behind the other leagues, and that's not true. It's behind, but not by that much.

However, the general level of football on display (in terms of quality, not necessarily entertainment value) has drastically decreased since the late 90s and the turn of the century.

Back in the glory days, guys like Cerci and Diamanti would be bench options at a Parma or Lazio, and pseudo footballers like De Ceglie, Motta, Armero, and other hacks would be scrubbing toilets.
