Look, as it stands, we have no replacement for barzagli. He's the leader our defence needs.
Bonucci's passing is needed aswel, and ogbonna is no bonucci

But chiellini has been very unconcentrated during the entire preseason, where angelo showed to be very sharp.

He should play in the supercup

I've read today that Ogbonna and Pogba will start instead of Marchisio and Bonucci.

Btw his passing is better than Bonucci's.

:agree:

Pogba is in unstoppable form it seems..

I think Ogbonna is the long term replacement for Barzagli. Once Barzagli is past his best and with Pirlo gone at that time, I believe we'll use Ogbonna and Chiellini as CBs in a 4-man backline as the system will then be 4321/4231/433

Tevez
New LW - Berardi
Asamoah
Pogba Vidal
New LB - Chiellini - Ogbonna - Lichsteiner
Buffon

I wasn't talking about just one game. If you replace him with another in one of the most important matches in the season, that should be considered as a sign of his place in first team is not guaranteed anymore.

Wouldn't Ogbonna make one hell of a left back? Defensive he'd have world class skills, he's got good passing and he know how to make use of his physique when dribbling up the field.. Potentially a world class LB IMO

It's an important match but not that important, not even as prestigious as the Coppa final. It isn't at a great time of year, and is even worse during a tournament summer. We're talking about how we are struggling for great form and fitness, and our Confederations Cup players came back even later than the others, so they won't be near top form until probably several games into the season.

We can put in very capable players to replace our 'starters', that's why we went out to buy good depth. Players aren't robots that you can just turn on and off, lack of games or tiredness seriously affects performance. Considering the concentration levels needed to play in this team it makes sense to field those in the best condition.

It's a really bad time of year to judge players, we'll see who is doing the business a month or so into the season. You see it with teams and many players, the season can start off very deceivingly.

You could add that players are motivated differently. Chiellini is often taking lower/mid table teams at ease whereas he steps up in top games/intl games. I have seen the best from Chiellini back when he marked Ibra or Cavani..
