I don't get why people think a left-footed CB can't play on the right when right-footed CBs always play on the left.

We had Caceres playing LCB for some games last season and he's not even a natural CB like Ogbonna. I can't see Bonucci working out well as a Barzagli replacement because his game is not to man mark and win physical battles. That suits Ogbonna much much better.
Ogbonna can't play as a RCB but can excel at LB.

The idea that a left-footed defender can't play on the right is something I've complained about in the past.

Just makes no sense to me.

Name one left-footed RB or even RCB?

Just never happens, there must be a reason.
The reason is that left footed CBs are rare so that whenever they are on a team they naturally play LCB. It is rare for a team to have two left footed CBs so the opportunity for them to play RCB never arises.

playing ogbonna on the right is like playing litchsteiner on the left. it would not work because he woud prefer to use his right foot which means that he would have to cut inside (more to the right with the ball) in order to gain control of the ball. you can play a lefgtfooted attacking winger on the right (ie. di maria) so that he can turn and have a shot on goal or cross the ball but not with defenders (especially CBs)

once again shows, you have no idea of football

every player has to be able to at least use his weaker foot in a proper way, and for a defender, it means clearing the ball or passing the ball. even i can do that with my left foot, so the "foot" discussion in this thread is pretty silly

It's more related to the fact that lefties usually have rather poor passing and ball control with right foot. When you play on the right side of defense the most passes you'll make will be to the right flank. Ogbonna seems to be an exception to this rule. He has more than decent right foot.

Yes exactly.

I'll point out our Chiellini who has rather awful right foot and rarely uses it. But he's WC defender nonetheless.

Yes it's different with attacking minded players. With defenders it's more sensitive issue. One mistake and that's it.

It's because there are more right footed people than lefties, therefore throughout their entire career most right footed players have filled in on the left whereas left footed players almost never fill on the right due to the abundance of righties
