Because you don't rate Ogbonna or because we're handing them Immobile?
Neither, really. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it just doesn't feel right. I guess I just don't see this type of signing as a priority, so it leaves me fairly uninterested.

I also wonder where that leaves Caceres for example. Not that I really rate him, but why is he on the team?

I see Caceres as coverage for all the right sided defensive positions, and Ogbonna as the left. Maybe more than cover, guys you can put in for games and have a degree of security.

Peluso is more like cover.

If this happens we have:
for RB/RW: Licht / Isla / Caceras
For CB: Ogbonna / Barzagli / Bonucci / Chiellini / Peluso / Caceras
For LB / LW: Asamoah / Peluso / De Ceglie / Ziegler

And we are interested in Zuniga.
Bit too much IMO.
We'd better start selling some players finally.

Yet taking the time both players were at the club into account, Peluso played significantly more than Caceres. Which is what I would expect for next season as well.

No need to consider Ziegler though.

The right side of our team had better continuity and fitness than the left side last season. For the upcoming season we shouldn't assume that Barzagli and Lichtsteiner will both be available for as many games as they were.

If anything Ogbonna's purchase should be contrasted against Peluso.

You forgot Padoin on the right.

RB: Licht, boh
CB: Chiellini, Barzagli, Bonucci, Ogbonna, Caceres
LB: Kolarov, Peluso

CM: Asamoah

better imo
Definitely more balanced. But then makes you wonder, coz Asamoah would effectively be a 5th choice CM in the pecking order. We've paid 18m for him, so there's a possibility he's going to be shuffled between the wingback and central mid positions to optimise playing time.

Let's not forget that Caceres also had a car accident which took him off the radar for a while longer than one would've liked. If fit, Conte is going to find a destination spot for him in the centre of defense or as back up for Licht/Padoin.

Assuming Isla and De Ceglie are sold.

Italics being fill-in options.

3-5-2

DC: Bonucci, Marrone, Ogbonna
DLC: Chiellini, Ogbonna, Peluso, Caceres
WBR: Lichtsteiner, Caceres, Padoin, Pepe
WBL: Asamoah, Peluso, Padoin, Giaccherini

4-4-2

DRC: Barzagli, Bonucci, Caceres
DLC: Chiellini, Ogbonna, Peluso, Caceres
DR: Lichtsteiner, Caceres, Padoin
DL: Chiellini, Peluso, Ogbonna, Caceres

Maybe Vidal in an emergency scenario, but I think Caceres is going to be the joker in the pack as far as defensive options go.

Ogbonna is rightfully a Bonnucci back up, very similar style of play. Ball playing d's help the 3 man defense immensely, but I think we are working on a secondary set up this year. I hope it's the 4231.

Given that we have just signed Peluso, Caceres is playing well for Uruguay (showing himself to be much better than either Lugano or Godin in the Confed cup), not to mention he's pulling off these performances at LB. We've got our usual back three of Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini, then with Isla, Licht, Padoin, Asah and as mentioned Peluso and Caceres as options for RB/RWB and LB/LWB. Is this transfer really necessary? I mean we also have Sorensen, Masi and Marrone in our back pocket ffs.. We are stacked as it is, firstly PDC needs to go, we are simply out of room. Also, if Caceres works on the left side for Uruguay, why isn't he being given more of a chance there for Juventus? The guy is proven, he did so in the 2010 WC when he stood in for Fucile (who's spot he's since taken in the NT), 2011 copa America, and in his first half season here he played very well, and prior to him hurting his knee in the preseason Belusconi cup. Ogbonna comparatively is an unknown quantity in the big time, I'd rather Criscito or Kolarov if we needed a dedicated LB/LWB player.

I would like to see him back at CM, think of how much better we could be with Asamoah playing instead of Padoin/Giacch etc.. But at the same time I would like to see him also be 2nd choice LWB if we sign a good LWB like Coentrao, Kolarov etc. I'd start him over Zuniga though.
