I think you can argue the opposite as well.
Who would not have struggled being handed the hand that Pirlo got?
Playing every 3 days the entire season, no preseason, first year at the club, rejuvenation of the squad, covid.
The only coach that comes to mind that would surely overcome that in the league is Conte. Pep and Klopp can take time, Zidane has never done this, we saw Allegri have a horrid first half of the season when we shuffled the team in his second(?) Season, etc.
It's not such a straight forward situation.
I agree he has taken over in very difficult circumstances and would always have had a challenge this year.
My point is what has he shown in his career to suggest that he should be given the faith to turn it around and why do people think he can turn it around?
How do you know if given more time we will not be worse?
He had no track record of showing any success as a manager. Whereas I could see the argument for giving someone like Klopp more time because he has shown he can build a successful team.
We've changed a lot but a lot of that is self inflicted by Pirlo. When Allegri took over from Conte he kept the 3-5-2 and gradually made his changes. Same for Sarri when he took over. Pirlo was naive to try to change everything at once, especially with no preseason.
If we hired a guy off the street would we make the same case that if he gets more time things will improve?
The issue is that we have no idea if Pirlo is going to be a good manager and unfortunately for him his lack of track record has to be considered. Plus what we have seen so far this season, the odd subs, selections, bizarre tactics don't help his case. How do we know he isn't another in a long list of excellent footballers who are not good managers?
