It is absolutely true that when Pirlo plays, he dictates the game. But you have to decide if it's in your team's best interest to have the game dictated by one player, who has to take 15 touches on the ball and does nothing defensively.

I would prefer no regista, just a DM that plays the ball first time and can move up and down with the play.

If you look at Bale's goal, Pirlo and Pogba are at the halfway line when the ball is played into Ronaldo who then plays to Bale. Pogba gives a decent, not even great effort to get back and he almost gets there. Pirlo is not even in the screen FFS. That is your DM. Maybe he could get there, maybe he couldn't, but FFS he's not even close. He never is.

And then people complain about the pace of our game. It's hard to press when your DM is that useless. It's hard to counter attack when your DM takes forever to release the ball. Has Pirlo ever succeeded in a fast-paced game? What is so mystifying about the correlation between Pirlo and our pace of play. If he dictates the game we will always play at a slow pace. Fact.
Thats utter non-sense. Pirlo's first touch is world class and his long passes and vision are miles better than any single player the game has to offer. If we had fast running wingers/strikers like Bale and Ronaldo, Pirlo would claim TONS of assists. Hell if Alonso can do it with madrid then Pirlo with his far superior passing, first touch, and vision can definitely pull it off. Even Paul scholes could do it for christ's sake and he is worse than Pirlo at defending.

Defensive contribution my ass. Vidal and Pogba/Marchisio more than make up for Pirlo's lack of pace that is not to mention the extra cover from our wingbacks and ball playing defender whenever we employ the 3-5-2.

You took the one player that despite his age turned Juve into the strongest team in Italy and turned his mediocre national team into finalists and called him useless. Pirlo takes forever to launch a pass. I have heard it all.

We all see this but it's the price we have to pay for a dying breed deep playmaker like him. One could also say his slowness kills our counterattacks most of the time but his vision and passes can be out of this world and he's the only spark of creativity we have. He hasn't been the same since the EURO though, and now he either has a bad or a good match and all we can do is hope it's the latter. That's why i'd try hard to get Verratti for next season.
correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Pirlo the first and last? Which others can you name?
