What are you talking about? He was the one who created space for himself almost all the time, he was so good at protecting the ball, turning somehow and finding a whole field of play all at his service.

I meant to say that he wasn't man-marked out if the game like he has been in some matches in Europe (last season especially). He was given more time on the ball. When he's in the mood, he's just a joy to watch.

When not having ball possession Juve play with one man down and that's because Pirlo can never defend and never even tries. I can't believe how you lot can't see this.

We all see this but it's the price we have to pay for a dying breed deep playmaker like him. One could also say his slowness kills our counterattacks most of the time but his vision and passes can be out of this world and he's the only spark of creativity we have. He hasn't been the same since the EURO though, and now he either has a bad or a good match and all we can do is hope it's the latter. That's why i'd try hard to get Verratti for next season.

he was great against madrid if you ask me. He was pulling the strings all game and made modric and alonso look like amateurs. He tired in the last 20 minutes or so but he is definitely still the best passer in the game.

It is absolutely true that when Pirlo plays, he dictates the game. But you have to decide if it's in your team's best interest to have the game dictated by one player, who has to take 15 touches on the ball and does nothing defensively.

I would prefer no regista, just a DM that plays the ball first time and can move up and down with the play.

If you look at Bale's goal, Pirlo and Pogba are at the halfway line when the ball is played into Ronaldo who then plays to Bale. Pogba gives a decent, not even great effort to get back and he almost gets there. Pirlo is not even in the screen FFS. That is your DM. Maybe he could get there, maybe he couldn't, but FFS he's not even close. He never is.

And then people complain about the pace of our game. It's hard to press when your DM is that useless. It's hard to counter attack when your DM takes forever to release the ball. Has Pirlo ever succeeded in a fast-paced game? What is so mystifying about the correlation between Pirlo and our pace of play. If he dictates the game we will always play at a slow pace. Fact.

Lucky to have the second half linked in this thread, because watching it I don't really see anything wrong with what Pirlo does. And he's clearly in the screen.

I take it you nevet liked Pirlo? Because his defensive quality or lack thereof is nothing new, thats basically the way he has played for his entire career.

He played alongside a dm most of his career with Gattuso who was responsible for most of the defensive work infront of defence. That's not the case now.
