I don’t think it’s any coincidence our best performances have come when we’ve been more defensively minded and played on the counter.

The attitude of the players is the main concern though. How you can approach games like they have is throughly unprofessional. Porto, Napoli, inter, fiorentina, Barcelona 1st game, Crotone, Genoa etc.

Arrogant attitudes and performances lead to what we’ve seen this season rather than player selection and tactical set up (which have both been poor also)
Exactly if Pirlo wants to play to the ability of the squad, this is a counter style team not a pressing one..our mids are a bunch of DMs with not enough tech ability (specially with Artur out) trying to handle the ball quick and play tiki. Morata and CR namely would thrive in a counter system..Right now we press up and run out of space and ideas when opponents set up in their box as opposed to when you sit back more and wait for the moment to counter you shuffle and open the opposition into making mistakes.
I agree about the attitude of the players but I think that is mostly on the coach too. It can be frustrating for them and it's up to the coach to figure out what works so the players believe in what they are doing again. Pirlo is not asking the right questions from his team.

Biggest issue to me has been defensive shape/positioning. Other aspects can improve whether now, when everyone is fit and schedule is lighter, or in summer.

But you always see 3-5 players in one cluster when two of them shouldn't even be on that side of the field. Noticed that even in some games where we played well. Wonder if that happens in every single game. If Pirlo's idea of defending only includes grinta/running/intensity/"sacrifice" (all he has mentioned so far re defending) and not shape/positioning, benvenuto Zizou next season. Just hope we can put together a good run for the 10th between then and now.

Things like playing out from the back and holding/carrying the ball won't be as big an issue when Arthur and Morata/Dybala are on the field, and you also have Bonucci.

Same with midfield issues when Arthur returns and Wes doesn't have a hip problem anymore. Missing one more good mid, but three was too much to ask last summer, and these two are big improvement over others unless they're having one of their good days.

If we can't play anything other than pessimistic counter-attacking football all the time, in a league where we should have one of the best squads to steamroll most sides, then that says quite a lot about the state of affairs here. One-dimensional players, lazy old-timers resistant to change, and an approach to football held hostage by the old engrained methodologies, for starters. If so, then this club has major problems, now and in the future.

In the previous season we had no competition, this season we had, it was the worst possible moment for such a gamble. Pirlo knew it and decided to waste his coaching career, Possibly CR7 and Gigi's Last season with us and Juve's chance for a historic once in a lifetime streak...
Probably Agnelli promised him that he will take the responsibility only to find a knife stabbed at his back by the end of the season, just like it happened so many other times before with DD, Conte, Max etc
Agnelli is ruthless he will turn him into a scapegoat...

Should be fired on the spot if we fail to beat Porto @ home and qualify for the next round. Oh, and Tootsie and Bozo should be joining him on the chopping block too. No excuses. Being ousted in the RO16 in consecutive seasons to vastly inferior opposition in Europe constitutes abject failure.

It won’t solve anything and it will probably put us in an even worse position but if he fails to deliver against Porto I do agree he’s gotta get the boot. Might not be the best but it’s the right thing to do.

He shouldn't have been hired in the first place. In fact, Allegri shouldn't have been fired without having an adequate replacement in mind (no, chain smoking cancerous turd was not it), but Big Petty and his butt buddy were too trigger happy.
