When it comes to the defensive side of the game namely reading the opposition's next move and being in the right place at the right time to intercept it then yes but going forward, Pogba has a lot better vision in picking out passes and moving in the right spaces with and without the ball
BTW, Modric, Xavi, Scholes, peak Gerrard aren't registi. Verratti can play in that role, but he's even better in the Modric/Xavi role, which is what he plays for PSG and Italy.
And Marchisio in the pivot role is a complete player who's decent or better at everything. He's one of the very best in the world in that position. Complaining about Marchisio makes no sense.
There aren't many Pirlo type players in the history of the game (in terms of both style and technique combined) let alone now. Closest to him nowadays is Verratti if he's played as a regista. No one else comes close. Again, makes no sense.

Argued that he was talking about the backup options all along. Lambasted Lemina (even though he was injured) and Hernanes and Marotta because to him he failed to get solid backups for regista and SS roles, and argued that he was never wrong before, that Marotta did fuck up.
He does prefer players who're aesthetically pleasing and think they're automatically better footballers. This is a case of him being defensive about what he said before and also genuinely believing that Marchisio isn't good enough (but he doesn't think he's poor anymore) and stylistically not the right player as our regista and for our midfield and the team as a whole.

This is absolutely false and I challenge you to prove it.
I have always said Marchisio is a good regista from last season. I defended Pirlo against the accusation that he is a liability, which he definitely wasn't as evidenced by how far we went last year with him as our primary Regista, and his stats, even in a formation that gave him defensive duties. All summer long I said we have not bought a vice-marchisio when there are no guarantees that Marchisio will replicate last season's form (given his up and downs historically) and will not be injured (which he was and we suffered for it terribly).
I also never said marchisio is dumb. I said he is dumb in comparison to Pirlo who is a genius. Marchisio's movement without the ball, how he makes himself available for others and his passing are all very good and very reliable, all of which require of intelligence. He just lacks the offensive intelligence that other top players in the same position have, like Modric, Alonso, Xavi etc.. and is thus less entertaining. I have no problems admitting that he is smarter defensively than this entire group of players.
The whole alarm I was raising about a lack of a vice marchisio shows how much I value his contribution. I even argued that he was one of the most important players in the squad because of how key his role is in the functioning of the midfield. I wouldn't say that Marotta fucked up for not getting a vice-marchisio if I didnt assume marchisio was important. It wouldnt be a fuck up if it was not buying a vice Asamoah or Padoin would it? It is a fuck up if there is no vice-an important player not an unimportant one.
About Lemina, I never said he was poor and again I challenge you to prove it. I said we have seen too little game-time of him to make a reasonable judgment and I said he strikes me more as a B2B player than a Regista. I said this very late in the season when Lemina scored a great goal and not at the start when we were struggling. I am now convinced he has potential but I am still not yet convinced he should be our vice-regista but rather a sub for khedira or Pogba. So again I never "lambasted" Lemina.
About this season, I still think Marotta should have bought a proper regista to fill in for marchisio. This was confirmed by how much we suffered at the start when our midfield was useless and Pogba had to drop deep to spray passes. I credit this season to Allegri more than Marotta in that regard because Marotta's risk back fired when marchisio was injured and when he returned allegri had to pull rabbits out of his hat and went on a crazy run. Having said that, Marotta overall did a good job since almost all his signings worked out well and in dybala's case it worked out brilliantly.
At the start of the season I criticized Marotta's decision not to buy a vice marchisio AND his choice for going for just dybala (you missed that part). I argued that it is too much to ask of Dybala to immediately fill in the shoes of all-time-best-form-Tevez and that he'd take a couple of years to reach that level. I did not expect Dybala to be that good and that mature and I was wrong. I normally admit that I am wrong when I make a wrong predictions so dont throw words in my mouth and try to paint me as a guy who retrospectively changes what he said to appear always right. If you want that kind of guy, then you should go for the ones that changed the definition of choking 4-5 times across the season to continue to blast Higuain and never admit they were wrong. I was wrong about dybala not being up to the task on his first season. I was wrong about Salah being better for Juve than Cuadrado @Post Ironic effectively changed my mind about that and I told him he was right as soon as he showed me the defensive stats of both. I was wrong in thinking that we will finish second after the poor start.
I was not wrong in saying Higuain is better than Morata (those on the other side never owned up to this). I was not wrong in saying that he has improved mentally and is no longer the same old choker (they never owned up to this either). I was not wrong in saying marchisio is not entertaining like other players and obviously especially pirlo (others including you freaked out over the term imbecile).
