I think it’s a good idea, but the Super League should be a open competition with promotion/relegation and without some protected status for the founding clubs.

The UEFA/FIFA are some corrupt crooks. Participating in the SL already earns us ~3 times more than winning the CL, imagine how much money ends up in the pockets of those frauds. I genuinely dislike them and don’t trust them one bit, the threats that they would disallow players participating in their shitty WC shows how they’re shitting in their pants.

And to be fair, the groupstage in CL has always been a joke. Nobody is really waiting to play games against minor teams. I don’t want to disrespect them, but it’s the harsh truth.

I rather see us playing more often against the likes of Liverpool, City, Barca etc instead of 2 games against Barca like this year. It’s more entertaining. And of course it’s a money driven decision by those 12 clubs, but in some way I understand it, why the hell would you listen to a corrupt organization like the UEFA/FIFA. The blood on the workers hands in Qatar is still wet ffs.

The saddest part is for the clubs like Ajax, Porto, Benfica and basically every club who are somewhat close to the elite, as they won’t play against big clubs if they don’t qualify for the SL. That why I think it should be a open competition with the risk of relegation for the bigger teams.
The whole premise is no relegation. Big clubs dont want to risk losing hundreds of millions because of one bad season. For Juve, Barca, Milan, Real, inter, missing out on CL is disaster and may as well lead to bankruptcy/selling star players.

How UEFA has allowed football financial aspect to develop through their own greed and corruption is why we are in this place. They have no one to blame but themselves.

How so?

That's a completely different discussion.

Clubs such as Juventus and Real Madrid have become big because of their national federations and because of the European championships organised by UEFA. Now that they are big and well known, they basically want to close off the market for other teams and generate wealth within their little circle of teams.

That is deeply cynical and not something I can stand behind.
And here i thought juventus got big because of well it was managed and results it achieved. You are starting with a conclusion instead of trying to reach one, FIGC has been nothing but corrupt bureaucrat dinosaurs, thay have been an impediment to our progress, they need juventus much more that we ever need them. Their racket has made a lot of unscrupulous people rich, it's time for it to go.

Of course.

But to me this isn't just about the appeal.
Agree in a way. I’d love football to be the way it was in the 80s, 90s, early 00s... but it isn’t and UEFA/FIFA are entirely to blame for how corrupt and broken and lacking transparency the system is. This is the inevitable end result.

People can bitch about Agnelli being evil and soulless, but our club is run openly and transparently now, public reporting of financial operations, etc.

UEFA deathly afraid of what would happen if they had to do the same or force clubs like PSG to do it. UEFA deserves to crumble.

North American professional sports are far less plastic than the actual competitors in European football. Salary caps, salary floors, proper revenue sharing for competitiveness, building teams through the draft, instead of big teams spending hundreds of millions buying up every half-talented player.

Lol at calling closed leagues plastic. UEFA has had every chance to rid itself of corruption and the broken financial system of European football to make it competitive again. Instead they chose greed and corruption and utterly failed.

Even if this doesn’t go through, they could learn a lot from the professionalism of North American sports leagues, because they have zilch.
Just because the model works for north america doesnt mean the imitation will work under vastly different circumstances.
The basketball association of america BAA, merged with national basketball league NBL to form NBA and resolve conflict. That is progress.
That works different than multi governing body associations.
I can understand if the design of this is meant to put alot of pressure on UEFA but in the long run there is nothing indicating this is the better way to go simply because this too will be money driven (has to be to compete) so how much are things really improving idk..

This is literally just a CL replacement for the major clubs of Europe to bring some stability to club finances at the top. UEFA will eventually have to back down and domestic league participation will continue.

Progress imo

In a sport you can only become big through your adversaries and through the organizations that allow you to compete.

I am not saying FIFA or UEFA are perfect. I am not saying I like them. I am not even saying they have to exist.

I am saying though that you can't just cut out the Benevento's and Porto's of the world, because football has always been a fluid system and that has been a big part of the appeal. If you want a closed circuit, fine, go watch the NFL. But in football, every club has a chance.

And I will not ever support a system that is designed to keep the rich rich and the poor poor. It goes against everything I think that is just.

Sure.

But that's a different debate.

The Super League is about whether or not it is okay to close off the market for other clubs.

Well, of course it is okay to do so. You can dislike it, and I can to some degree as well. But the big European clubs that drive revenue for football probably look at the organization, professionalism, stability, and revenue generation of North American sports leagues and are quite envious of how well run and smooth it all is. They want that. And I don’t blame them.

This could be the only way Juve stays relevant in forthcoming years. Because financially we cant match English clubs and I cant see us closing the gap in near future in current state. Our domestic competition simply doesnt generate enough revenues to support our growth and we are in disadvategeous position. Old farts in Serie A are more interested in bringing us down to their level, rather than reaching ours. Id still want Juve in Serie A though.

Current system is designed to keep status quo. What kind of chance do clubs like Porto have to win the CL in current conditions? In current system we might see lesser club winning CL every few decades so does it spell fairness, competitivity? At least we can stop pretending now its a fair game.

So the solution is to make it even less fair?

It's a system that rewards excellence, moreover let the market decide, if people rather watch the portos and beneventos, this experiment will fail.

Less fair for who?

We want a competitive league with relatively equally matched teams up top. This is definitely a solution for that. It can be argued that this takes away from the history and spirit of the sport, but definitely not away from the competitive, sporting aspect. We will have a professionally run, organized and stable league with all the best teams and players in it. The current system doesn’t work at all given the influx of money into the sport and UEFA’s corruption and unwillingness to do anything to restore competitive balance. It’s broken. ManCity and PSG have proven this repeatedly, and everyone just following suit.

Its too far gone either way to make any difference.
What Id prefer has nothing to do with current state or the state in football over the last 20-25 years.

What clubs like Juve have been building for century, by investing obscene amounts in short span of time oligarchs effectively nullified. Fairness.

We've been beaten by Ajax, Lyon and Porto in the last three iterations of the CL, three teams that are not good enough for this new "competitive" competition. I'm not against a reform of European football but I'm against giving automatic spots to teams just based on some arbitrary reason like number of fans. The spots need to be decided based on on the pitch results. If Agnelli and co are worried that one bad season and missing the CL has too much effect on the teams finances, just use a system where teams get points based on their league ranking and use a three year total to decide the qualifiers for example.
