Its wicked to see such a strong response to my post. Many of you are clearly thinking along the same lines as myself. Душан in particular, shed some light on areas I only touched upon, briefly shone the torch upon. And I agree with everything he wrote.

I was too hasty in my denunciation of Poulsen, he needs more time, and deserves more times. As for the Molinaro debate, I see him as weaker, defensively, than Grygera, but both of them are incongruous to my hopes and dreams of the future Juventus.

i think that was where we erred with criscito in the 1st place...his preferred position is LB..he might not bomb forward a whole lot but he'll put in a strong defensive shift
on the other hand...he was a newcomer and pairing him with another newcomer in andrade at the heart of defence was perhaps asking for trouble..mebbe now that chiellini is up and running,criscito might be given another shot @ CB n mebbe we''ll see the new nesta n cannavaro pairing with him n chiellini

not sure which position is best for criscito so i wont comment on that,but he was thrown into deep waters when he returned to us and he wasnt shown any confidence after his first mistake

1st) i think it will depend on how far we progress in CL

you can not always claim ranieri is a retard and ignore that molinaro is preferred to him on the leftback position.

even when molinaro is considerable weaker offensively, de ceglie does not take over the left back spot... so ranieri has to be pretty stupid and of course casiraghi must be a better coach and know de ceglie better than ranieri, because he plays him. the difference is that ranieri has alternatives and no ... criscito who does not play left back in his club is not an alternative in the azzurini (more of a backup if needed, but no left back starter). de silvestri is not even a left back, he is right foot only player and surely no left back competition for de ceglie. Rubin is a left back. that is true, but you can not really consider a player who has only 22 first league appearances as competition to a player like de ceglie who has more than double the games in the serie A so please check your informations.

The positions that we need to fill are a replacement for Nedved and hope and pray that Andrade does not get injured again this year. The replacement for Nedved should either be Diego or Cassano, and like somebody else said they would not be direct replacements but there would be a switch of formation. A 4-3-3 is perfect for this squad with the players we have, We have so many CM its not funny might as well make use of them, this way Giovinco will get more playing time in a more natural position and Cassano would fit right into the team or Diego. For me, a Chiellini-Andrade partnership would be great with Legro and Mellberg as subs....btw what kind of freebies are available this upcoming transfer window besides Eboue?

No, I want a certainty. There's too much praying going on; praying for Camoranesi and Zanetti's health, hoping for Chiellini to remarkbly recover from injury in a two week span. Here's the plan: do what should have been done two years ago and invest in a proper, fit, and proven central defender. At least with a good central defender, Chiellini will have a reliable partner, and he won't be pressured back to the squad if he's injured, reducing the occurrence of strains and sprains shortly after the injury.

Of course, the replacement for Nedved is a must, as is a fullback.

i must agree 100% with max, all these injuries from muscle strains or reprecussions of past injuries are maybe not ot blame on medical staff but to blame on the fact that they must be put into the first team to quickly.

we really need a new CB and fullbacks. then we can use players like legro and mellberg as decent enough backup. same goes with grygera and moli.

we should really put a money in for ivanovic he will surely leave for first team football. chelsea chairman bruce beck said this ""I don't know whether that is three, four or five, but something in that kind of neighborhood, so we can expect a handful to leave". maybe one of them is ivanovic

criscito who does not play left back in his club is not an alternative in the azzurini (more of a backup if needed, but no left back starter).

Criscito does play left back in Genoa though (He played the LM of a 3-4-3 formation, which is actually LWB IMHO). In Azzurrini I also saw him play left back as a starter in some matches even when De Ceglie was available (For exmaple, I remember he played one in Olympics 2008 when De Ceglie was not injured. He also played LB in the recent two Azzurrini games, VS Germany and VS Sweeden, in the latter, De Ceglie was not available but in the one with Germany De Ceglie was there too). But overall there are so few Azzurrini games that it's hard to judge.
It's a possiblity that De Ceglie is not that important or a-must-be in the Azzurrini which may indicate that he does lack something.

Anyway, I don't think Casiraghi chose De Ceglie as LB over other players mainly because he had no other options. I think it's his football mentality which is far more attacking than that of Ranieri. It makes no sense to argue who is the better coach though.

Its clear from this thread and from keeping my finger on the pulse of every transfer rumour I can find, that the main transfer target is a replacement for Nedved. That will solve two problems in one swipe because a the Nedved hole will be filled and whoever comes in will be a player to add the creativity that is sorely missed through nedved's age, camo's injury problems and ranieri's tendency to play with two dogged, solid central midfielders.

The attack is fine. Leave it alone, and bring Giovinco and Iaquinta into first team affairs more regularly next season, and who knows, perhaps Daud will get a few games...

In goal, no discussion.

So that leaves the defence. which as some of you have stated, is horribly disjointed and breakable when we are without Chiellini. Legro is not getting any younger and Ariaudo is too inexperienced to aim for a first team berth. Criscito will return, and likely be paired with Chiellini. Much depends on his return. But lets assume he will be more composed this time around...which leaves the flanks...Left back and Right back positions are flimsy. I can hope that De Ceglie will take over from Molinaro but that still leaves the right flank. zebina, grygera, mellberg...none of them are good enough.

so...I would be happy for the whole budget to be spent on Nedved's replacement and a new right back. OR...those two and a new right winger.

Asking for two or three decent players with the amount of money we have to spend is not dreaming. If we can all see the prime areas that need renovation surely Secco and Ranieri can also see them.

LM, or an AM if we are moving to 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1.

What makes you think Criscito is good enough? Ariaudo looks more composed than Criscito did when he was here.

We need a good solid central defender and a right back, if Zebina doesn't cut it after long injury. I don't know why we didn't go after Motta, as I assumed we were, having not gone after Mattioni.
