I think that's a pretty damn solid move by the 49ers. Not a huge Ginn fan (not a great WR by any means), but he certainly fills a need. Good to see another hole plugged.

Edit:

He's obviously worth the 5th round pick for his return game alone, but the prospect of adding a burner to a loaded 49er spread offense is very intriguing. He doesn't have great hands, but there will be times when he's gonna open up a lot of space for Crabtree, Morgan and Davis.

Former 9th overall pick, and now traded for a 5th round pick... that's just ugly. I still can't believe that the Jets got Holmes for a 5th. Fucking Jets.

My bad. I didn't see this earlier

NFL schedules are released today. Can't wait to see the non-divisional matchups slated for this upcoming season.

On a side note, there is a rumor that McNabb has convinced to Foreskins to sign T.O.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5118016

Apparently the two spoke at a filming of "Pros v Joes" and thought it would work if they gave it a shot again. I beg Washington to sign him. With a list of horrible off season moves the past 2 years, this would only be the icing on the cake.

I can't wait for that organiztion to crash and burn

Next up, the Dallas Cowgays

Travis Laboy still plays football? I like this move by the 49ers. Not expecting much, but it's a low/no risk move, which adds a little more depth to a position where we've got a lot of young, improving players.

Can't wait for tomorrow's draft! Definitely going to pray to the football gods for some wise decisions. Not feeling all that comfortable going into a strong draft with two 1st round picks and no GM... there's lots of talent in play, and we need to make these picks count.

What the fuck is this guy doing bangin' ho bags in the bathroom of some club? I mean, he obviously should have no problems with finding normal ladies, and after that previous allegation of rape... well, you gotta be really drunk, and really stupid to do what Ben did.

Wonder if Roethlisberger will be the next popular celeb bound for sex rehab. Anyone see the recent South Park about celebs and sex rehab?

Trent Baalke is handling the draft. We have nothing to worry about

Love the schedule layout @ NFL.com. Not a tough schedule in terms of opposition, but the 49ers are all over the fucking map. Crazy travel.

http://www.nfl.com/schedules/interactive#/team=SF

Finally some national coverage, too!

Edit: Would definitely take Peter King's 49er picks for mock that came out today. Would be a big day for our team.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/04/21/mock.draft/1.html
I've been thinking about this, and I take back what I said about not having the niners take Dez Bryant if he is available at #17.

Here is how I look at it. The top 5 Tackles in this draft, in my opinon, are Trent Willimas, Russell Okung, Bryan Bulaga, Charles Brown, and Anthony Davis.

Most pundits have the niners taking Davis at #17 if he is there. In essence they are taking potentially the 5th best OT in this draft at that spot.

I think that is too high, and I also think that the 49ers will stick to their plan of taking the Best Player Available.

If Dez Bryant is there, do you bypass the best WR in the draft for the 5th best tackle?

I wouldn't, that's for sure.

One factor that I totally forgot about in all this is the fact that the biggest change that is going to happen to their offensive line this year is who is going to coach them.

Mike Solari is one of the best offensive line coaches in the game, as his work with the Chiefs in 97-2005 will show. He has taken really good players such as Will Shields and helped him step his game up to the point that he will be a first ballot hall of famer next year.

Solari has a great pedigree and track record, which leads me to think that OT just might not be their priority in the first round. I think that they will be looking for impact players, and if a combination of Joe Haden/Dez Bryant end up being the first round picks, then I will do a handstand.

With that being said, I could see them taking an OT in the 2nd round, such as a Rodger Saffold from Indiana, Vladimir Ducasse from UMASS, or Jared Valdheer from Hilldale College.

Here is something for you though.

Jimmy Clausen is rumored to be in and around this area in the draft. Here is a prediction, and I've been wrong before, many many times.

To Buffalo: Pick #17

To San Francisco: 2nd and 4th round pick in 2010, 1st round pick in 2011.

You never know. Keep in mind for anyone who thinks that this is too muc for buffalo to give up.

Future 1st round picks have exactly half of the value as a current pick, due to the uncertainty of where that pick will be.

The numbers add up, or at worst, San Francisco would have to give up a 6th round pick as well

The best I have read recently. I enjoy ready for Mitch Albom
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess this is as good a time as any to say this: The NFL draft is out of control.

Not in a small way. In a bonzo, gonzo, head-exploding, what-is-wrong-with-you-people way.
It begins tonight, on a Thursday, the first round only, broadcast nationwide.
It continues Friday night, with Rounds 2 and 3. And it concludes Saturday with the remaining four rounds. That's three days for NFL teams to select seven guys, at least half of whom they likely will cut.
The venue is Radio City Music Hall in New York City, a place where Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald once entertained thousands. Now fans will jam in to watch college players' names being called.
It is shameless enough that TV execs have milked this cow to exhaustion. It is sad enough that tout services wring every ridiculous detail out of these young men, as if they were livestock. It's pathetic enough that the money handed out to the top picks, who haven't played a down in the NFL, will exceed the salaries of all but a few of the players who have been killing themselves for years.
Forget all that. Forget the pomp. Forget the money. Think about the time.
Your time. It's worth more than this.
Where's Waldo? No, where's the defensive tackle?
Because once again fans in Detroit are acting as if this draft will turn around the Lions' franchise. They've learned the names of every prospect, studied all the details, and now act as if they absolutely, without a doubt, know the difference between what a 307-pound offensive tackle and a 295-pound defensive tackle will do for the team.
They know the Nebraska D-lineman, Ndamukong Suh, as if he lived in their house. Never mind that on most plays, the average fan can't even find a defensive tackle. Doesn't matter. People are sure Suh can change the fortunes of the Lions. For this they spend hours and hours -- days when you add it up -- studying, reading, doing mock drafts.
Let me throw a few names at you. Bryant Westbrook. Terry Fair. Chris Claiborne. They were all first-round picks for the Lions. And once they got here, all fans did was complain about them. Their names alone now probably make you cringe.

If I told you to go out and spend days reading about them, studying, looking at their film, you would tell me to stuff it. Why waste time on such mediocre players?

And yet fans do it willingly, endlessly, with college kids who haven't played an NFL down!
Here's a few more names -- all No. 1 picks for Detroit. Andre Ware. A bust. Stockar McDougle. An overweight bust. Jeff Backus. All people do is get mad at him. Joey Harrington. Why wasn't he a better player? Charles Rogers. Out of the league. Mike Williams. Got fat and washed away. Ernie Sims. Gee. Didn't the Lions just trade him?
And I'm not even going to second-, third- or, heaven forbid, fourth-round picks.
Don't you want your time back now?
The best way to judge a football staff
What is the fascination with players who haven't done a thing? Players who most fans never knew until their names came up as "likely selection." Why not wait until they get here, watch them a few seasons, then see if they're worth your attention?
I'll tell you another thing that this draft infatuation is doing. It's being unfair to the hard work teams really do. Selecting 21-year-old kids is a crapshoot at best. How you coach them, how you scheme them, how you work them over the years, how you bring them together physically and philosophically -- that's what coaches and general managers should be judged on.
This ridiculous focus on the draft gets fans and media all lathered up over nothing. A few months from now, most of these players will disappear to the back ends of the rosters. A few years from now, you won't remember who they were.
I know it's fun to spend other people's money -- which is kind of what all drafts are about -- but three days, countless TV hours and a universe's worth of Internet traffic is simply insane.
Save your time. Watch a hockey game. Read a book. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell once told the media, "We have not found a saturation point for pro football."
Wanna bet?

:disagree:
College football is the best part of american football!
For some reason (Lions :gsol: ), I am slowly losing passion to the NFL.
On the other hand, Michigan losing didn't affect my love for the the game.
I enjoy watching college kids giving it all for no money unless you go to USC!
So, you're losing passion because the Lions have struggled? Well, if you bothered to notice, the Lions are on the upswing and are in line to draft an absolute beast of a DT with the 2nd pick.

But that doesn't matter to you though, because you have lost the "passion"

And if you think that little jibe at USC affects me, think again
