Ultimately, you want to see gradual progress in the team's record once a new regime takes over.
Two years in a row ('17 and '18) of going 2-14 or 3-13 and all of a sudden people in San Fran may be feeling the pressure for '19, which would be just the 2nd year for that QB they drafted in 2018.

I don't think Jimmy G is a safer choice than Cousins. Quite the opposite actually. Jimmy G is a complete unknown and giving him big money would be like pulling an Osweiler. Cousins has more than proven himself on the other hand.

The issue though, if you are the 49ers, is that now this rebuild gets pushed up considerably, and there is no amount of cap space to get the kind of talent to have them competing immediately if they trade for Cousins. To me, it would actually fly in the face of their mantra of being patient and rebuilding this from scratch. And that would piss me off. But obviously they don't care about that.

That was kind of my point - we already know who Cousins is.

And people comparing Jimmy G to Osweiler or Matt Cassel or Brian Hoyer should do the world a favor and pull the plug on their keyboard ... or better yet, just cut their internet cable. :D

Brandon Marshall to the Giants.

2 years, 12 million

That is a really good move by the G-Men.
That was to be expected - staying in NY means a lot for his post-football career.

Cosmic troll, there's a tight end in this draft by the name of butt
And he is broke right now - torn ACL.

pretty good player, though.

Feels like it but it could be that Kyle S is trying to surround himself with players he's coached before, independent of position.
A push for Cousins seems natural at this point in time, though, especially considering Cousins' situation with the Redskins.

So, apparently, they are going to heavily front-load these FA deals in the first year of the contract.

I had to find this out because when I saw that he would be making 16 million in the first year of the deal I lost my mind.

They can't give up the 2nd pick in the draft and only get Cousins in return. The Redskins have no leverage at all in this.

Did you honestly think that was 16 mil per for Garcon? :D

You'd think they would be getting something back in a potential Cousins trade. Skins don't have much leverage now but there are plenty of QB-needy teams out there, so I don;t know if it will all come down to an exchange of 1st round picks.

Well, when you have that much in cap space, stranger things have happened.

Out of all the QB Needy teams out there, since we can now take the Bears off the board, how many of those clubs have A) The cap space to be able to sign him, and B) His favorite target from Washington?

I don't mind an exchange of 1st round picks in this trade. Just not the #2 straight up for Cousins.

Looks as if Kenny Britt could be going to the Eagles.

49ers to sign Brian Hoyer.

I have to be honest with you here. As a "Bridge" QB, he fits the bill just fine.

2 year deal. Makes perfect sense. At least this dude is somewhat accurate.

Hoyer is actually relatively competent. If 9ers are really trying to get their QB in 2018 draft, that may not be the best way to go about it - I can actually see Hoyer get them outside of top 5.

The QB class is at least 3 deep next year, and you have to figure that Trubisky and Watson are both 1st rounders this year , correct?

So if they go where they should, then that is two more teams that won't be needing to draft a QB next year.

I mean, if you look at it.

The Bears are dropping 15 million per for Glennon.

The Broncos, even if they don't sign Romo, are invested in Paxton Lynch

You have Cleveland, where if the Jets don't pick Trubisky at #5, they probably most certainly will take him or Watson at #12.

And then that leaves whomever is left for another team to pick who is left. And who knows? If the Browns do pick Trubisky at #12, and Watson is still there in the 2nd, maybe the 49ers take him.

There aren't that many teams, by the end of this draft, that will be "QB Needy", so to speak.

A year away from it, it seems like the 2018 QB draft is gonna be at least 3 deep but you never know how the process will eventually shake up. Plus, when looking for that next franchise QB, you will likely like one player more than the rest as opposed to just go with whoever is left ... that's more settling than getting the right player for you.
Basically, if you can't identify THE ONE, you have found none ... unless you are hoping to get lucky and pull another Prescott, like Dallas.

I wouldn't discount any team that drafts a QB this year from being in the hunt for one again in 2018. The gap in QB talent is that big and it's very likely GM and HC heads will roll between now and then - every new regime likes a fresh start.
Glennon's deal is for just two years, from what I understand, meaning he is most likely just a way-too-expensive bridge QB.

Anyways, how Hoyer does will also depend on what kind of help the 9ers get him on both O and D - he is not someone who can pull the team on his own.

Kyle Juszczyk would be a very good signing by the 9ers. Important piece of the Kyle S offense.
