Amauri Will Force Out Trez Or Del Piero – Antognoni
Former Fiorentina and Italy legend Giancarlo Antognoni has commented on Juventus’ imminent signing of Amauri, and believes that the Brazilian will force out either Alessandro Del Piero or David Trezeguet.
Amauri is on the brink of completing his long drawn-out move to Turin, and the deal could be completed by the end of today.
While some believe that the 27-year-old will be an excellent acquisition, others have questioned the signing given the brilliant form of this season’s forward partnership of Del Piero and Trezeguet.
The duo scored 41 goals between them in Serie A to finish in first and second place in the race for the Capocannoniere crown. Antognoni believes that the signing of Amauri will see either Del Piero or Trezeguet dropped to the bench.
"The fact that Juventus has gone for Amauri means that he will take the place of one of the two,” the former midfielder exclusively told Goal.com.
“I am convinced one of them will be left out, and I do not believe that all three will play together as it is difficult to place them simultaneously on the field.”
Antognoni is worshipped like a God in Florence after a 15-year career with the Viola from 1972 to 1987. He played 73 times for Italy, and was a key member of the 1982 World Cup winning squad.
