Thing is, it's a paradox for us
If he flops or turns out to be average, Madrid obviously won't go near him but then we've thrown money down the drain. If he's as good as we hope he turns out to be, we may end up losing him for marginal profits
The only scenario in which we really win is if Madrid go after somebody like Falcao and even if Morata turns out to be World Class it'll be too late for Madrid to buy him back.
Meaning, that whether or not this was shrewd business by us remains to be seen. We just have to wait and see this saga out. There is a risk Madrid will get the last laugh, but I actually see it as more realistic that we're gonna end up having the last laugh with this deal.
RM will always chase the Falcao's, Suarez's, Rodriguez's of this world. Most likely I think Morata is gonna develop into a "very good player", perhaps just shy of being world class. Will that be enough for RM to bother with activating his clause? I don't think they will. I think they will go after the biggest stars in world football no matter what. IF he turns out to be THAT kind of player (WC), though, and then they buy him back, well, then so be it. That was the risk we took.
As for him flopping immensely and turning out to be a shit player that can't even be sold on by us for 10-15 million, I don't consider that likely at all. He obviously has a lot of talent.
