The alternative is short contracts though. So lets just say Sandro came here and we wanted a 5 year contract. He would think im going to get better most likely so I want to be paid at least the median of my years here. If he doesnt live up to it we try to ship him off but cant. That hurts only us. Or he says no ill only sign a 3 year deal. This summer we would be trying to sign a new contract for him for how many years? 2? So we will go through this again next summer. Makes no sense and we would lose a lot more players for free in their prime but thats just everyone who works in footballs opinion
