i have mixed feelings towards Secco: im not entirely happy with his transfer dealings this season, with exception to Iaquinta and Sissoko.
I will reserve my final judgement on Secco after this season.. depending on which players he brings in for next season, regardless of how they perform.

Milan hand out big salaries too easily, likes of Kaladze get 4m, and all of their deadbeat players Serginho, Cafu, Dida, are on huge salaries. Its their whole issue, carelessly big salaries for average or done players.
In one Italian magazine i read one interesting, and rather critical, article about Milan and the salaries they give to their players.
Their wage bill is the highest in serie A. They pay ~125m euro per year only for player's salaries (taxes included) , without counting the bonuses they get for every win, every goal, every assist, every clean sheet and without counting the salaries of Ancelotti and his assistants. If we count all these, then we get a number close to 140 m eur per year.
No matter how they do during the season, they have to pay 140m euro to the players and the coaches.

Inter are behind them with some 15-20m euro less, while we're third with ~40m less.

Maybe this doesn't seem so strange, but it is. Milan have no squad depth. They rely on some 12-13 players during the year. That's actually the main reason why they're doing so bad in serie A in last 2 years.
Inter on the other side have around 25 players of , more or less, the same quality, and Inter can allow to play without 4 or 5 first team players and still do good. Milan lose 2 players from starting XI due to injuries and they fall apart.

So, Milan without squad depth pay much more for salaries than Inter with great squad depth and they pay 40m eur more than Juve, with Juve also having more squad depth than Milan. To make it more clear, in 4 years time (the usual period of one contract) Milan will spend 160m eur more than Juve, only on wages.

Just as an example, Digao (Kaka's brother) is the lowest payed player in Milan, and he's getting 1m eur a-year (tax free). Before Bianchi's arival this January, Lazio's highest payed player was earning less than 1m eur. Giorgio Chiellini gets 900 000 eur per year.
Iaquinta gets 2m eur while in Milan Simic, Favalli, Serginho and Cafu get 2m eur.
Jankulovski gets 3m eur per year. In Juve it's Camoranesi who gets these wages.
Kaladze gets the same money as Del Piero, Ambrosini gets 3.5m eur per year while Maicon in Inter gets 2m eur.
If we compare it with Roma's wages then we get even funnier picture. Kaladze gets 4m eur per year, while Vucinic, Aquilani and Mancini together get 2.8m eur total.

The author of that article was criticizing Milan for this and his conclusion was that these high wages are the reason why Milan have much less money than the other big teams to spend during the summer mercato. Another interesting point was about the famous "family atmosphere" in Milan and how players don't want to leave Milan and stay there for 5,6,10,15 years.
Well, of course they don't. They aren't crazy to leave the team that's been giving them such fat salaries.

But this year things will be changed, no matter if Milan play CL or UEFA. It's expected Milan to finally get rid of oldies. Cafu, Favalli, Serginho, Maldini, Simic, Dida, Emerson and Brocchi cost the team ~36m eur per year (taxes included).
By losing them they get rid of their incredibly high wages.
Now we will see an agressive Milan on the transfer market and the wages Milan will be offering to the players will be really attractive. By offering them much more money, Milan will be the wanted destination for most of the players, even if they don't play CL.

Indeed Alen, good post, even if I knew of their crazy salaries, its good to get a reminder or two of poor their are managing their business.

It needs to repeated how bad bussiness it really is:

Some of their wages list for some players.
Dida 4m
Gilardino 3.5m
Cafu, Favalli, Serginho, Brocchi 2m
Oddo 4m
Kaladze 4m
Inzaghi 4m
Emerson 4m
Ronaldo 6m

These are basically mostly average fringe players (apart from Kaladze, Oddo who aren't worth 4m players at all).

Then:
Ambro, Rino, Pirlo and Seedorf netting a total of around 16m, with almost 4m each.

How BAD are Milan's directos in negiotiating? (4m is the average...) dream for any agent to have a little chat with.

"Mama mia! Oh noez, dont go! dont go! Havah un gellato, No 2m, 4m, ok? 4 for you Molinaro!":excited:

I really doubt milan will be agressive in the market this summer. IMO milan have a financial problem that the public don't know about. 2 years ago everyone thought that milan will do a complete makeover to their squad but nothing happened. Last summer when they won the CL everyone said well they have extra $$ last year and they will spend big but again nothing happened!! One of my friends knows a guy that did some business with seedorf (advertising for a watch brand i think) and he said to him that there r talks behind the scene in milan that berlousconi wants to sell the club and he's trying to advertise more the club without spending much $$ on players to get as much cash as possible when selling the club without losing much.........

Actually, I think Milan have the money. It's kind of naive to believe that Milan's management are complete morons. If they could not afford these ridiculously high wages, they wouldn't have been paying them. If they overpay their players, that means that they have enough money to do so, in this case, a shitload of money.
It doesn't mean they are running out of money.

I think they will probably sign big names this summer but I don't think it's going to better their situation eventually. I expect this Milan to be the same as Inter 4 or 5 years ago. When they had money and spent it unwisely. I think this is what will happen to Milan. Like Inter, their fans are in a state of anger and panic after performing terribly in all fronts this year. This will force the clubs into spending loads of money on big names with no end product.

They are not naive its just the way they operate. Thats their policy for dealing with their squad, maybe they will change it but i doubt it and a prime example is the flamini transfer.

Thats why Allen is right about them being aggressive in the market this year as they will have a lot of space in their salary budget with many old players leaving.

I don't think you understood my post Sateeh. I actually said the people in this forum are naive because they believe Milan's management would actually put themselves in this situation if they new they couldn't afford it.

It's obvious they have the money.

If they have the money, then why don't they sign players!! for the past 3-4 years milan spent the least money on new players when compared to other serie A or european big dogs. Everyone on the planet knows that they don't have enough depth in their squad and still they don't buy players....

I tend to agree, I always wondered why they did nothing last year when they had a poor season. I just thought the CL win deluded them.
Then I believed they tried too hard on Ronaldinho as his sage kept dragging on the whole summer.
But now I think they do have financial problems. They spend way too much on salaries. It is not that easy to get rid of a player if you pay him a royal salary and Milan aren't capable at the moment to keep on paying the same salaries on new players if they still have the old ones to pay.
They need to revamp their squad but first they have to let others go, and who would offer them the same?
looks like Milan have to wait untill these players call it quits
their management clearly has made mistakes, and we complain about Secco and co
they have paid the most in serie A and what do they have to show for?
