I do agree with thoes who say Matri is not World Class.. BUT, I'm very sure that he'd be worth a big club if he had good players along him..
Neymar-Matri-Krasic with the right midfield and wing-back's would be hot! You really can tell the way he finishe's, heads and just by being the right place at the right time.. He is a true 9'..

I had doubted him, but he is proving me wrong. I like his movement and he is a very good finisher.
I don't think that he is worth 18million just now, but lets face it we are not getting in the Champions League this season and therefore it is highly unlikely that we can attract a Benzema or Dzeko.
If he keeps playing the way that he does I will be happy, I'm sure that there were more glamorous players than Vialli, Ravanelli, Inzaghi when we signed them but each of them turned out to be good.
We do not need to make our mind up about him yet, lets just see how he gets on over the rest of the season and hope he can keep his form up.

Matri is an old school centre forward. He's quite quick as well as being relatively tall. He has the intelligence to run into space to open up a chance and when he gets a chance he can finish well as well as being reasonably good at heading.
He's not the kind of person you look to to change a game but he is well suited to being the end product of a team move. If you play him with a creative player behind (Giovinco? Quagliarella?) and two creative players out wide (Krasic and whoever we end up with out left) he will of course score goals because he will move and open up passing lanes which will lead to scoring opportunites.
A Kluivert or Batistuta, not a Ronaldo or Del Piero.

If I had used lesser-known players you mabye wouldn't have known them as well and so wouldn't get the style comparison. Although I suppose those who don't rate Matri would say that that is the very point - that Matri isn't on par with the well known players I listed.

That's in my view a very warped view of football. You're saying that a team is only as good as it's attacking players?!? That's just absurd. Attacking players shine when the rest of the team is providing them with support. When we play against mid- to lower table teams and we can barely manage two shots, let alone shots on goal, then the problem is not the attack, but the whole team.

I think we need both Quag and Matri. I would hope we would not get Matri and would buy Benzema but now that we will miss out on CL Matri would be a good pick up for us. He is not of the same level as a top striker but he is very good. But Matri is not good without someone creating chances for him. So I think we would need Quag as DP can't play every game and create chances for Matri. Also we need a good left winger but seeing how there will be no CL instead of thinking about players like Hazard or Bastos or 20 million Euro players we should get Drenthe for about 8 million euro. He would be excellent for us and give us as much pace and technique on the left as Krasic gives on the right. That way we can sort our attack for about 40 million Euro and be very competitive. Then we can get Beck and a LB with the money we get from Sales of players.
