But then you take away all creative options and any semblance of actual football and he's in big trouble. Aquilani's success depends on having actual footballers around him. He can't make Marchisio into a proper LW. He can't make Iaquinta into a proper striker. It's no coincidence that his form dropped when we lost Quagliarella.

So, essentially, Aqui can't do anything. Well if that's the case (which I personally refuse to believe), then there's really no point in signing him.

I highly doubt it. Aquilani never really had any form to begin with; he was always hot and cold, highly inconsistent, even during his Roma days. I recall him having one stellar season with Roma, and that was it.
