but he actually wrote a whole book about that definition and the attributes :D he's just pointing out in that paragraph that one should not argue those points.
:shifty:

I'd be happy to oblige if it wasn't for the fact that these attributes are used by people who are trying to explain to me what their "god" is. And defining the undefined with incomprehensible attributes brings us no closer to the goal.

close to 90% of our speech/ideas are speculation, we dont know if guus is coming to juve but we also dont know if the sun is rising tomorrow. Obviously some are stronger that others as illustrated by the 2 examples mentioned, but the strength is relative to how much evidence supports it as with the sun rising tomorrow. Based on the evidence i have come across i have some idea of God's mercy but to go ahead and establish firm description and knowledge no one can.
you mean god's mercy, what the rest of us call "unpredicted events in the universe"?

was it during college when you were young and curious and thought that it wouldn't hurt if you experimented a bit? i mean isn't that what college is all about?
I did it to f*ck with the establishment. You know. Your parents and teachers are all with their inches, pounds, and ounces. So you rebel with centimeters, kilograms, and milliliters. Makes you a metric badass outcast.

This was all before rap and people wearing their pants around their knees, of course.

I use metric myself. If the damn Europeans got anything right, it was deciding to use the metric system.

No virgins for me in paradise?

Oh noes!:frown:
I don't know who's more ignorant; you or the jihadists.

What is "heard of" supposed to mean? I've "heard of" Buddhism yet I don't know a thing about it. I've never met a buddhist, I don't know what they do (aside from sending young boys into monastery and making sure they shave their heads), and I've no idea what the point is. So does this mean I'm supposed to drop everything and become a devout buddhist?

My BS alarm is raging.
Is it me or what? I never seem to get my point across to you.

I never said you had to become a devout Muslim. I said that if you have heard of Islam and chosen not to look into it (the curiousity is certainly there because everyone is always talking about it) then that's "your loss". In other words, you certainly did have the opportunity but you didn't capitalize on it. The end result doesn't need to be conversion fyi.

Don't speak of BS alarms, your little knowledge Islam is embarassing yet you love to enter into discussions about it. You don't see me mocking you.

there's no belief without outward expression, and no you are wrong though people are encouraged/discouraged from certain beliefs/practices no one can come out and say john doe is going to hell as they dont know, only He knows.
Please try to quote next time you tell us what so and so wants or likes.
As for attributes heres a quick recap by spinoza which should help broaden your view here http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/spinoza-attributes/#IdeAttSub
This is what gets on my nerves when he speaks of Islam. Rarely does he support his claims with sources and when he does and you explain the meaning behind it he just says something along the lines of "I tried to do what you're doing; trying to rationalize it but that's not how it was meant to be interpreted".
