Firstly, sorry about your dad, Ahmed.

Was it a positive year to you generally?

2011 has been a year of ups and downs for me. Started my Masters this year which will hopefully lead to a Doctorate at some point. Dr. Risa has such a nice ring to it. My paternal grandfather passed away earlier in the year, so that was a sad time for us. Also started and ended a relationship in 2011. I don’t view it as a bad thing however, because in the past where I would try to make a bad thing work, this time I just cut my losses and moved on.

The best thing that happened to you in 2011?

1. Starting my masters
2. Getting refunds from 4 years of taxes …had neglected to file prior.
3. Buying a new car

The worst thing that happened to you in 2011?

1. My grandfather passing away.
2. Having to hurt someone by letting go.
3. Doing something that I was not proud at all of but completely regretting it which tells me I learnt from my mistakes. You live and you learn, such is life.

A thing you wanted it to happen but did not happen?

As adorable as this thing is, I would rather not share with the public. Put it on my bucket list though. ^.^

An achievement that you did not expect but happened during the year?

1. Passed an exam I thought I was going to fail.
2. Pleasantly surprised myself by being so much more mature with decisions than I was in the past.

A thing you wish it did not happen in 2011?

Wished my grandfather was still alive. Additionally if he was my brother would have also been married by now. They had to call off the wedding because he died a month before.

The best event globally?

The worst event globally?

All the fighting and warring over petty things and so many lives lost because of it. Additionally so many people around the world are still starving when we have so many resources to help alleviate the problem.

It was half-half, more bad than good...


The best thing that happened to you in 2011?
Regained my scholarship for school, I wasn't supposed to get one and the coach basically kicked out all the veteran players on our squad, me and my two friends where the only one's he kept. It was a horrible season though, meh free money


The worst thing that happened to you in 2011?
One of my best friend's close friend passed a way, made my cry to see him that way.


A thing you wanted it to happen but did not happen?
Not so sure. I don't really set goals so yeah.

Liberation in the mid east/africa

The european crisis, and U.S economic meltdown

It was cute. I was gonna say blasphemy Toyota never makes anything bad but there were the older model Yaris. My best friend bought a truck and I got all jealous when I saw it but by then it was too late cuz I already made my purchase. It's all manly and tempting.

Was it a positive year to you generally?
Any year you can finish alive, relatively healthy, and with the people you love is reason to feel positive.

The best thing that happened to you in 2011?
Catching up with a lot of people - friends and professionals - while I was between jobs.

The worst thing that happened to you in 2011?
Having my company hit a debt ceiling where I had to find another job, spending almost 5 months unemployed.

A thing you wanted it to happen but did not happen?
I got a different job than I would normally be expecting. I took a major pay cut and wanted to do something different than I had been. So yes, but I had a large hand in that.

An achievement that you did not expect but happened during the year?
Pretty much ending up as CTO of a startup funded by a rather famous billionaire on the second day of my new job.

A thing you wish it did not happen in 2011?
Mother in law diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately she's doing well and is oddly today in the best-looking shape I've ever seen her in the past 16 years.

The best event globally?
Arab nations that got out the clowns without having to resort to radical Islam. Though unfortunately all had varying degrees of violence.

The worst event globally?
What happened to Japan in March will be hard to forget.

Said an overdue goodbye to the soul crushing university world.

Had an unexpected problem with my eyes, for a few weeks I was struggling to maintain a normal lifestyle.

Can't remember.

An achievement that you did not expect but happened during the year?
Wrote an Italian course

Grandmother died

Was it a positive year to you generally?

Yes, very much so.

The best thing that happened to you in 2011?

1)Getting a new car.
2)Visiting Libya after it was freed from Gedaffi's regime, that was so emotional and a very happy moment for me.
3) Seeing my uncle outside prison for the first time since 1995(i was six at the time). He was a political prisoner and was put in the worst prison in Libya just because he opposed the Gedaffi regime. Seeing him outside prison was a very happy moment indeed.


The worst thing that happened to you in 2011?

Getting into a minor accident with my brand new car

To get a good job, i'm tired of the bullshit job i'm doing right now.


An achievement that you did not expect but happened during the year?

N/A

A thing you wish it did not happen in 2011?

The thousands that died in Libya and Syria. Egypt's revolution being stolen by the corrupt SCAF.

The best event globally?

The Arab Spring without a doubt. Also the freeing of Palestinian prisoners was a good event.

The worst event globally?

The financial crisis. It really fucked us over, us newly grads.

My father's financial problems, which was inevitable but it sucked to see him going through such pressure.

My parents moving to Tehran.

I wish my uncle didn't have a stroke.

It was a positive year overall - solid relationship with my girlfriend, work and gotten new friends.

I got promoted to a supervisor in February.

Car accident in September which have put me back a lot financially.

Getting closer to my father.

To supervise the agents I used to work with for 2 years.

I now smoke a lot more than I did in previous years.

I consider the week I've spent in Amsterdam last April a special personal event for me. I don't care much about global events.

Best friends moving out of the state. Suddenly the city feels very empty.

Middle east revolutions. Glad to know normal people can still make a change.

The anti-corruption campaign in my country. Makes me want to puke when you see hypocrites taking the street.
