Nothing surprisingly bad happened to me. That's enough to call it a positive year.

My father's financial problems, which was inevitable but it sucked to see him going through such pressure.

My parents moving to Tehran.

An achievement that you did not expect but happened during the year?

Nothing really.

I wish my uncle didn't have a stroke.

Libya.

Many! I can't tell.

Got my pilot's licence which I was beginning to feel like would never happen.

Getting my licence 5 months earlier and being well on my way to completing the rest of it.

I wish I didn't waste so much money this year

The Arab revolutions. I'm happy to see that people have the desire and are capable of fighting for their freedom.

Well you could have told me earlier. I just asked my cousin (Bristow Pilot). His best friend's dad is the head pilot at CAL. But he is a bit on the drunk side so I don't know if he'll even remember by the morning.

He said he will speak to them. Both dad and son are CAL pilots. I bbmed him your name so he would remember. As I said he is at the back of my house drinking with my brother and cousins right now so I will talk to him again when he's sober.

Was it a positive year to you generally?

In general, yes - it was a positive year.


The best thing that happened to you in 2011?

I met some fantastic people at the University, people I'm sure will become life long friends.


The worst thing that happened to you in 2011?

Nothing bad really happened to me, but the point were I felt the worst was when a close friend in Serbia got in a car crash. The guy had above normal intelligence, was fun and active - after he hit his head in the car crash in July the doctors weren't sure if he would ever come back. When I visited him a few weeks after the car crash he could hardly recognize me, he keeps talking about himself in past tense when he's talking about something he did before the crash and his center of emotion is still pretty shot so he has a hard time feeling anything about anything.

A thing you wanted it to happen but did not happen?

I wanted to get control over my life, but I'm still having a hard time kicking the slacker gene which I'm still carrying from High School.

My friends car crash

The best event globally?

Dick Marty's rapport on Kosovo, people starting to get a more realistic picture about what went on down there. Hopefully we can remove the black/white perception completely some day

Being done with the military service once and for all.

Being in the army.

Still no major shift in global conciseness relating to environment issues.

Was it a positive year to you generally?

Meh. Wouldn't mind it if the next one was better.

Euhm.

Few issues with one of my oldest, (formerly) closest friends.

Growing up.

An achievement that you did not expect but happened during the year?

Fairly succesful year professionally speaking.

A thing you wish it did not happen in 2011?

Seeing people die at what was supposed to be one big party.
And, just as terrible, the fallout (in the media): looking for scapegoats, outlandish statements by self centred individuals (who didn't even know what happened in the first place), people abusing the situation to push their own political agenda, ...

The best event globally?

I'm tempted to say the Arab Spring. Even if I am fairly apprehensive of the (near) future in the entire region.

The worst event globally?

The entire, terribly flawed economy (or rather the "system" behind it). Not something exclusive to 2011 obviously, but we did see some consequences this year.
