He mentioned that because it shows how much Liverpool fans respect Xabi Alonso and demonstrates how important they feel he is to the team. Not to mention the possibility that he remains at Pool because of supporter demonstrations.
So yes, we should care what people affiliated with Liverpool think because they hold the key to his transfer here.

I don't want to see Giovinco on the left-wing but that's what we're going to be stuck with if he even gets the nod over Nedved. Personally, I think Seba is ready to be thrown into the fire and start over Pavel, as we have to move on and get some youth in this team from the start. But even though Giovinco will be played out of position, I think he has the wherewithall and skill to play on the left, unlike Palladingo who isn't even a midfielder.
If do get Xabi it will be interesting to see how he works with Giovinco. Hopefully our left-back will be of better quality so that the Seba can cut inside and work his magic closer to the center of the pitch, which is what he naturally prefers. If that's what it turns out to be, we *should* be playing much better football than we have recently in the past. But then again, that depends on what Ranieri tells the team.

But he only has one year of serie a experience, one year experience of top level footbal. He needs to carefuly get experience to blossom. Which means he does need playing time though.
I don't beleive the 'they have it at their or they don't' thing. Different players mature and develop their talent at different ages.

I'm sure he will play as a trequartista eventually, but I think LW is a good way to ease him into the side without putting too much pressure on him.

If we get Xabi it should result in guys like Camo, Seba, Nedved and De Piero getting better quality service and earlier, which should give them more space.
