Juve - Xabi: forse oggi l'intesa (Gazzetta dello Sport)

That's the most effective translation I've ever seen.

Juventus Managers put themselves to a very strange and embarrasing situation. They were only focusing , at the very begining, on the buy of Xabi Alonso Knowing very well that there's a complication ( Barry ...). Then they started to seek another alternative but really very late.

And it's a very interesting article, especially since positive news about Alonso are coming from Gazzetta dello sport, the newspaper that is usually very pessimistic about Juve transfers.
Plus, no matter how much we dislike Gazzetta they are the most reliable Italian sports paper, by far.

They say that Secco and Blanc met with Liverpool directors yesterday in Nion and eventhough they still didn't find a mutual understanding on the price, sources from England claim that it's just a matter of time (even a matter of hours) until we sign Alonso.

It's interesting how Gazzetta says that we're buying both Poulsen and Xabi. Poulsen will be ours in the next few days and will start trainings untill Sunday. We'll be paying him 2.5m a year.

He played CB quite well when their had their injuries in Sevilla (which was for quite a while with their lack of defence depth). But as a makeshift role, not a possession he should be considered for seriously.

If we sign Xabi and Poulsen, having 5 DMs/CMs (and this is without counting Tiago) is quite puzzling, thats quite alot of depth, either its being overcautious due to CL and last seasons injury issues. Or he may be planning on playing a central diamond midfield in Milan mould, with having 3 central mids playing behind an AM. Or more reastically, planning on playing 4-3-3 exstensively, meaning there would be 5 central mids (without counting Camo who can play there too) competing for 3 spots, which is reasonable.

The Poulsen stuff better be a bluff, its really weird otherwise what use he would be (another longshot speculation may be Ranieri might consider Marchisio as a more advanced midfielder, who knows).

Interesting, but hard to imagine that in Juve.

If we play with 3 CMs then it's either going to be the Christmas tree (4-3-2-1, the same formation Milan are using with Kaka and Seedorf behind the striker) or a 4-3-1-2.

I can't imagine us playing the christmas tree because we have far too many classy strikers to play with only one of them.
It could be interesting with Giovinco and Camo behind the striker, but it's hard to imagine that Ranieri will put 3 of our 4 strikers on the bench.

If it's 4-3-1-2 then it's possible but it means that two of Nedved/Camo/Giovinco will have to sit on the bench and only 1 of them will start the match, as an AMC behind the strikers.

What Ranieri makes of the squad at his disposal is something that should be kept in mind too.Everyone is assuming that Giovinco is in to play on the left side, but that's not what Ranieri might have in mind.I already posted this a few pages back.Ranieri might be considering Giovinco as the team's main creative and playmaking force, which is what might explain not buying Alonso(If that is the case.I still think we'd sign him,but if we dont,it could be because of Giovinco's creative talent).

I havent followed Stankovic too much,so i dont know if he can play on the left wing, but he's a versatile player, and maybe Ranieri sees him as a potential replacement for Nedved.

Camo--Sissoko---Giovinco--Stankovic

Ranieri could have this midfield setting in mind.Maybe he trusts Giovinco more than we think.
