Alonso? I Want Stankovic - Ranieri
Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed his penchant for Dejan Stankovic as he attempts to bring in some much needed strength in midfield despite the fans protesting against the Serbian's signature.
»Comments Print This Story Send To A Friend Contact Us galleria zoom The Old Lady have so far brought in good cover for every position but they still have not managed to add a midfielder.

Several players were on the Bianconeri's radar including Stankovic, Xabi Alonso and Alberto Aquilani. Alonso's deal seems to have stalled recently and Stankovic was tipped to be the alternative.

Ranieri has now revealed he would prefer the Serbian international and he is not worried about fan protests.

“I want to bring in a midfielder who will allow me to change and play various tactical systems,” Ranieri told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

“Stankovic? He's a player that I like. He has great technical qualities and he can play in four positions in midfield.

“I wouldn't be worried about having Stankovic and I am convinced that after three or four games, the fans would think of Dejan as one of us.

“He's the complete player and I would like him at Juventus.”

Reports in Italy claim that Stankovic could arrive sooner rather than later if Alonso's potential move to the Olimpico breaks down.

The former Chelsea coach is likely to go for the Serbian over Alonso as he would cost much less than the Spaniard who is unsure over his future and this may ruin the deal, allowing the Stankovic to sneak in.

Ranieri is talking too much with Secco recently. First he thanks Secco and now he ignores 95% of Juve's fan and say he wants Stankovic. He added that fans will think he is one of us after 4-5 games. What he thinks about fans?

He has come here for just 1 year and he talks like this about fans who has been here for long long time. He himself is not one of us yet! I do think that fans are real owners of the clubs but they don't have any power and a coach talk about them like this!!!

I prefer that we keep Almiron instead of buying Stankovic. I even prefer to resign Davids instead of damn Stankovic.

It's interesting how the title says "Alonso?I want Stankovic" while Ranieri did not even mention Alonso the entire time.
Yeah, annoying, isn't it ? goal.com tends to do this a lot, especially with Juve.
Why is Alonso included in the title of this article i'll never know.

It's even more funny how people fall for this and i expect any moment someone here to start talking BS about Ranieri because he prefers Stankovic to Alonso.

You see that a lot in the Italian media. They got titles like this almost everyday:

JUVE BEFFATA : insert player name to insert club name

Beffata means got screwed basically.

And compare this with the way the media treats Milan.
All the best players are dying to play for Milan according to the media. If the journalist asks the player if he'd like to play for Milan and the player gives a diplomatic answer how Milan are one of the biggest teams in Europe the media immediately translates that as "I'd kill to play for Milan and only Milan".
Even though Milan are going to play UEFA Cup in Kazakhstan, even if they're buying average players or washed up 35 years old ex-stars, all the newspapers still link with Milan all the best players in the world.
On the other side, even though we're linked to average players mostly, the media's trying to make it look as if we stand no chance to buy even these players.
You remember the situation with Amauri ? In every fucking way they tried to make it look as the deal is destined to fail and how Milan are actually the team he wants.

I know Berlusconi owns most of the media, but this is annoying.

JUVE SILENT OVER ALONSO

Juventus are refusing to confirm they are still chasing Liverpool's Spain international midfielder Xavi Alonso.

The Serie A giants are looking to bolster their midfield options this summer but have stated they will not rush a decision on who to sign.

Although The Old Lady have a healthy budget to spend this close-season reinforcing Claudio Ranieri's squad, they have yet to agree a fee for The Reds' Spanish star.

"We have never named names. It's an important decision and we'll consider it at length because the final choice must be within our budget," Juve's chief office Jean Claude Blanc explained.

"We spend the right time evaluating players. It will be an investment of between 10 and 30 millions euros (£8million - £23.7million).

"We will talk things over at length with Claudio Ranieri and his staff
."

Although Alonso is being hotly-tipped to join the Stadio Della Alpi outfit this summer, Ranieri has more than one name on his midfielder wanted list.

"There are more than two names we are considering to strengthen our midfield," explained the former Chelsea tactician.

"We will choose the player who gives us the best opportunity to improve to this side."

Juve have reached this season's UEFA Champions League qualifying matches after finishing third in Serie A and Ranieri wants his troops to make the group stage of the competition.

"We are really keen on making the Champions League proper," he continued.

"For this reason we must immediately overcome the preliminaries. Serie A will be surely competitive too."
