Great post man, Giovinco looks like our future leader. I was watching him in the Toulan tourney in France. He is sooo quick with his distribution and his creativity is great. I know its only a u21 tourney but you can see what the fuss is all about. Why spend money on a creative player when we already have a young maestro?? Spend money to put great players around him that he can play with and develop around. Xabi would be great, our passing game would go up immensely and add giovinco to the equation and we have a much "prettier" football that i cant wait to see. Lets make money selling everyone you mentioned. Amauri, Alonso, and Grosso (or Vargas) are going to make us so much stronger. And who knows maybe Ekdal will turn out to be a dynamo?

I agree with what you're saying, but this is one of the two things that could kill Giovinco. The pressure/expectations and lack of space. The second might happen, but will be solved by Giovinco being placed on the left of the midfield, but I think his 'true' role is more upfront(even if he doesn't think so himself). A role he'll rarely to never get to play with DP, Amauri and Iaquinta in competition for his spot. And thus he will somewhat forced to show his play in a position that may not be truely his.

Nedved will be the starter from the beginning and it's up to Giovinco to break into the team, which may lead to forceful performances (see Palladino: doing overcomplicated things at the wrong time, just because he wants and needs to prove himself). Next season could prove dangerous for Giovinco, but in the end it's up to him (and Ranieri a bit) to prove that wrong.

Well said, but most of what you said is still arguable.
We have no idea how big is our transfer budget. Amauri and Xabi Alonso cost circa 30m euro (+Nocerino and half of Lanzafame).
Since Juve are selling Tiago, Marchionni and Almiron (and since Blasi is finally sold), it's expected the money spent for Alonso to be compensated with the money we'll get from the sales of the above mentioned players (probably some 1 or 2m left for Juve).
As you said, there are no superstar LB's, no Roberto Carlos on the market. The LB we'll buy will cost 4,5,6,7m euro.

To sumarize, the money we're paying for Amauri and the money we'll spend on LB, around 17-18m total, are the only money Juve will be paying.
Then there is Criscito, wanted by Genoa (they offer 3m eur, Juve want 5.5m) and even Molinaro. I'm sure some mid-table teams will be ready to pay some small sum for a player who was a regular in Juve, as bad as he was.

Selling these two and we're left with some 10-13m , lets call it cash money, that Juve will be paying.

If these 10-13m will stop us from buying a quality CB then buying Amauri is maybe a mistake.
But if such a, relatively small, sum will stop us from buying a quality CB then we don't even deserve to buy a CB.

So it's a question of our budget actually. If our budget was 40-50m eur (not counting player's sales) then there will be no problems. But we don't know if the 40-50 millions were newspaper speculations or a fact.
Personally, I doubt our directors would have bought Amauri if our budget was so limited.

Come on now.The boy didn't even start playing for us and you are searching for his possible failures?

Giovinco is a great player and has great deal of potential but it's time for him to step in to the next level.I have very high hopes for him and we should throw him into the fire this season.I presonaly think he's going to prove his quality but stop thinking now if he's going to fail because of the high expectations.It's time for him to prove himself.

How do you think lets say Aguero will feel the pressure if he comes to replace Del Piero?Sure,it's not easy to get on with but it's right time to prove he's world class player.

What would happen if we actually signed Aguero? Aguero would get wasted. He'd have to compete with monsters like Iaquinta, Amauri and on top of that Del Piero. The Icon who'll have turin on it's head if he doesn't start for two matches in a row. Same with Giovinco, who'll have to adopt midfield role, probably Nedved's role. Who always played on power and is always kept because tactically coaches love him for his alround and defensive abilities. Giovinco is a different type of player. A player you should set loose creatively in the final third.

What competition did Ronaldo have? He was allowed to grow in his own role for three years.

I agree there is a point where expectations get too much. But you are sounding too pragmatic for the sake of it in parts. If they are huge talents enough, then just play them and they will show whats what. For example, I dont get your Aguero bit. He like TOOOOOYED with everyone like I have never seen anyone do before in the U-20 WC last summer (not even Messi was that dominating for U-20 argies). He has scored 18 La Liga goals this season, and he has had jawdropping games like scoring 2 goals against Barcelona and almost single handedly winning them the game.

If you show stuff like that, why say stuff like he would be wasted and crushed by our attackers? He is in another level to the likes of Amauri, Iaquinta, and he would give 34 year old Del Piero a run for his money and eventually bench him.


Giovinco is in similar scope of talent. Yes its useful to take it slow, but if he shows he is such a bonafide talent its unreal, then you should trust his abilities and expect him to what he can do. Young players can suffer if they are pressured too much, but if the big talent is there, there is as equal amount of examples of them rising above it and showing their stuff as they should.

These u-21 tell us that Giovinco and Aguero are way ahead of the players of the same generation. But it doesn't say that they are ahead of the best players.

Even these type of special talents would find it difficult to find space and youngsters needs playing time, confidence and some consistency more than anything. If not, they'll over start overcomplecating to show their worth. When a youngster like Aguero is allowed to fully express himself without competition, you'll see a completely different player from one who chokes and has to struggle for minutes.

Anyway, I firmly beleive Giovinco has what it takes, but we can't assume anything.. these talents are so fragile.
