I figure the protesters will get headaches and eventually go home. The Kosova situation will be over with in a month or so.

Let's all be honest here. No one wants to end the world. Not even us "stupid Americans". I think you guys are blowing the WWIII thing way out of proportion. At the same time the end of the world isn't something you should joke about.
The parallels between World War I and this current situation are rather intruiging though. There is so much turmoil in the world right now that anything is possible.

How can you say this Enron ?
A piece of one's country has been taken. You really think the Serbs will forget this and leave it as it is ?
Palestine is an example par excellence of what can we expect.

The only difference is that the Serbs are a lot more stubborn than the Arabs and they are some really crazy motherfuckers (not in a bad way, Dule :D).
You can bomb them 100 more times but they won't give up.

No one wants a big dance right now. As no one would benefit from it, not even US. Basically I expect a small skirmish. Without direct US involvement. Followed by some NATO or UN intervention.

I don't know if I'd call this nice. It's more like yeah, pretty cool, Serbs doing a little retaliation, well deserved, but this just leads to more trouble.
Well, they don't have much to lose IMO.

But as Enron said earlier, this won't last for a long time. Those protestors will go home as if they did all what they should have done. And after afew days, everything will be back to normal conditions.

I don't think anything big will happen. Serbia has a smart government. Can't speak for the Red Star fans though.

Exactly, the whole globe is boiling and small retaliations might lead to huge troubles.

Nobody wants a big dance, but we all walk around with big talk. With smoke, there's fire.

I don't know how anyone could rule out major war with the current situation in the world. The US has limited resources, is seen to be in a period of economic decline, and our "enemies" will want to exploit that fact. Iraq will probably see an increase in violence, Iran will always be a problem we will ponder attacking, Pakistan will become much less friendly to the US in the coming years, Russia is losing more and more of their influence in the Balkans, Israel is still at arms with everybody in the region, etc etc etc. And it keeps getting worse. All this turmoil from the Adriatic all the way through Pakistan is a melting pot just waiting to boil over.

Not sure how we can rule out a major escalation in these regions.

Serbia has a smart government.
What about the oposition ? The Radical party, whose leader Seselj is now in Hague, indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity ?
They won almost half of the votes in the latest elections. (they lost only by some 100 000 votes)

If you get to read their platform you won't be so sure this stops here. The Kosovo question will bother Serbia for centuries now. It's a huge pain for them just like Israel is for the Arabs.
If there are parlamentary elections now the Radical Party will win by a huge margin and it's only a matter of time until they win and until Seselj or someone like him leads Serbia.

We can only hope this won't become much bigger than it is. But you can bet that the local war will last for decades.

Agreed, unfortunately.

I can't stop laughing:

The unusual combination of factors found in the Kosovo situation -- including the context of Yugoslavia's breakup, the history of ethnic cleansing and crimes against civilians in Kosovo, and the extended period of UN administration -- are not found elsewhere and therefore make Kosovo a special case. Kosovo cannot be seen as a precedent for any other situation in the world today.

Dule, you can't complain anymore. They care about your people too:D:

The United States takes this opportunity to reaffirm our friendship with Serbia, an ally during two world wars. We invite Serbia's leaders to work together with the United States and our partners to accomplish shared goals, such as the protection of the rights, security, culture and livelihood of the Serb community in Kosovo.
 What a gay universe we live at.
