I loved the thread where I tried to explain how you pronounce Boudewijn Zenden.

Anyway:

Kuyt: the "uy" combination is pronounced the same as the "ui" combination in Dutch, which has no English equivalent. In a sense, it's the same as the "uij" in "Cruijff" (international spelling: Cruyff).

This might be useful:

Scroll down to soccer and click "Patrick Kluivert" for that distinct "ui" sound.

EDIT: Never mind, they have a sound clip of Dirk Kuyt :D

Cheers Erik ;)

You told me on Skype how to pronounce Boudewijn Zenden; that was a hell of a lot easier than any written description :)

I liked the voice for the first set of names a lot better; it was much more solid and made the sounds more distinguishable. Thanks again mate

Yeah the second voice is a little weird. Also: I've discovered some minor errors: "Edgar" and "Giovanni" are pronounced the same as in English. I don't know what this guy's doing...

I would rectify personally but I don't have skype or a microphone to my disposal here

Well, i'm gutted Holland are out, would have liked to play them in the quarters. Should be ok against the portuguese considering just about all their dangermen are out or likely to be out of the match. We're better than them anyway so I'd say we have to be favourites, even if we're playing like shite.

Yesterday's game was pretty drab but anyone saying we were lucky is a bit off imo. Ecuador showed no desire to do anything, and were blatantly playing for penalties, getting all men behind the ball and making it difficult for us to break them down. A la Trinidad, a la Paraguay. Thank god we've got someone half decent next who will actually attack and leave us more space to create chances.

And to whoever said we played 3-6-1, thats not the case, it was defo a back 4. Not sure Sven will be sticking with that formation for the next game, especially with the same personnel. A bit worried about Becks being sick though.. still we're in te last 8 and we're strolling it. 3 Teams playing for a 0-0, won 3 conceded 0. Up yours!

hiddnek is probably thinking life is a bitch i got away in 2002 with korea and the refree's favours this time the trick is on me. i must say thou the australians were superb i think they r superb team and so is hiddenk he is a world class coach. italy were great too ( u need to consder that they were one man down) , i think lippi knows exactly what he is doing ( with regard to substituting toni) and how to handle the amount of pressure the australians apply thru there mid field. i hope italy can carry on proceeding forward hopefully we can do it against either swiss/ or ukraine..
