But you just admitted why you're backing this decision. It wasn't the validity of the bid, but instead you just want a games in a specific region. It wasn't about who offered more, but rather who was located where.

Thanks for playing.
Qatar have the most to offer, they comfortably can outbid anything that the other candidates could offer.

for all your 'potential', football is still lagging behind other sports both in the US and Australia...not so in Qatar.

I'm elated that they won because it would be very convenient to be there, and that's it...I'm not Qatari, or even an Arab, I just live in the region.

you're the one trashing it based on what you feel, and not actual issues with their bid.

Absolutely not. A lot of those so called Russian escorts are actually Ukranian & most drunk horny men can't tell the difference.

During the WC we had a business expo & you should have seen the Russian salesladies. I would sacrifice my house to spend a month with them.
A month? Sounds like you're going to be tied up as a prisoner. :p

It doesn't matter if it's Qatar's most popular sport. It's probably Mozambique's most popular sport as well. No, what matters is that Qatar obviously bought this World Cup. Qatar really doesn't have that much to offer in terms of cities and atmosphere. Why prepare a bid when the thing is going to be bought anyway?
"Obviously bought." Man, you are becoming an Italian alright.

What I don't get is why people act so friggin surprised at these choices. Well before the choices, the favorites were listed as Russia and Qatar respectively. Now it's like, ooooh shocking -- we got what the betting oddsters suspected all along.

It's clear that FIFA was trying to expand its reach in 2002 and 2010. And Germany never hosted for 2006. So why not England or the US? Been there, done that. It's brain dead simple. So an expansion to the Middle East? Smells completely like FIFA. A European version with one of the biggest BRIC football nations going? Also obvious.

This isn't rocket science, boys. But the aftershocks seem like nothing but sour grapes.

What if the draw was between England and Colombia, Greg? Or how about someone like Iraq?
I'd take Colombia in a heartbeat. I actually would have preferred them for 2018.

Iraq couldn't put a bid for running toilets right now, let alone a WC = World Cup WC.

It seems the Russians knew the day before, maybe one reason why Putin didn't bother going.
Putin knows corruption as much as anyone, but I thought it was hilarious that there was the suggestion of bought off votes to scandalize England's bid -- when they got a pathetically meager 2 votes.

The results came out exactly as I expected them to. My only explanation for why people are freaking out is because they still don't get how FIFA thinks or they're voting too close to home.

Pfff, that's 12 years from now. I'll be, like, 100 years old by then.

Give or take a few.

So personal freedoms don't matter?

Ah yes, I guess they don't in your region.
My personal freedom is different from yours. Your culture is different from mine. So if you are coming to my country I'd expect you to be vary of my rules, because you are in my home ground. And I'd do the same if I were to come to your land. Its called common sense.

Deneb already highlighted what they offer.

What is it? Nothing, besides money.

What I feel? That isn't true, I've offered several issues like logistics, football culture, personal freedoms, et cetera, that were all blown off.

If you want to continue, sure. But will I trust what you claim? Probably not, considering that you simply want an Arab Cup, no matter the bid. That's like me rejoicing in 2022 being held in Mexico, Or Cuba, or the Bahamas. So you're wasting your time here.

That's your problem right there. Personal freedoms mean limited rules, as long as they don't deny your own personal freedoms/human rights.

I'll refrain from making any other comments in this matter. Clearly some matters will never be understood over there.

Qatar has a STRONGER footballing culture than you or Australia.

logistics? have one of the finest airlines in the world, and they have a decade to put everything in place.

personal freedoms? Asif put it quite well, and even then, there will be significant leeway...there wouldn't be so many white people here already otherwise.

personal safety? you have nothing to worry about, US military has a base there as well, so it's all good.

why I'm happy about it, I already stated it, I have no undying affection for Arabs otherwise.

Yeah, like the democracy you bring.

By over here you mean India. The largest democracy in the world.

My ass.

Qatar is a rather small country. Doha? It's not even a 5th the size of New York City. It will be interesting to see how these folks accommodate all these fans.

Doubt it, at least in what we have been expected to see.

Which is why I, personally, see no point in going there. And as I said, I can guarantee you others will feel the same as I do. Very little reputation behind Qatar.

I don't really care about bringing Democracy around the world. In fact, I'd rather just leave it be and watch everyone else destroy themselves.

There will be a lot of people who will think like you, but still a lot of people will go to watch the games. Thats the beauty and reach of this game.

On a lighter note, here are the proposed stadiums for the Qatar world cup
In the 'media' stadium (where the outside part of the stadium is one big ass screen), you can see a clip of Clint Dempsey thumping his chest :D

I know that for you this is important, but for me, sorry, it makes no difference and I really don't care. I will watch it on TV most probably and it won't make any difference to me if it was Qatar, Spain, UAE or France. I did prefer Qatar ahead of their rivals solely for the time zone.
What I do mind is how, just like with South Africa, We in Europe and America act as if we have a God given right to be superior to the rest and how we must win and the rest must lose.
Nick is still young and a little naive, he will surely change and become a good man, but read his comments and you will see that it's the society talking through him. The society that despises those inferior races and countries.

I'm used to hearing the call for the prayer at 5 in the morning every day, will you guys let us do that if the world cup was held in America?
