Japan invest on their young and talents and Their development start academically from Basic teams(u 17). At the club level, they are the finalists of the Asian Club Cup almost every year and have the most championships both at the national and club level in Asia. In the past(20 years) Iran's football was ahead of them but now our football level is too far from their level. from my point of view the level of Japanese football is beyond of Asia, and If they were in Europe they would capable to to qualify to World Cup.
They are a little bit restricted by their confederation, which is very testing at times when they play in East Asia, but not necessarily for the quality of players they face. They only get a tournament every four years and some friendlies to find a competitive level, and invariably they will struggle as there's slow growth to compete with EU and SA level. Mexico have faced this as well as the US.

Japan also struggle to make as quick a mark as they'd like as they realise that football is so developed they can't really put a Japanese stamp on it immediately.

Spain is the OG boring NT. The goats of diving, whining, ganging up on referees, eye bleeding tiki taka passing and those zillion sleep inducing 1-0 wins in 2010 were the stuff of nightmares. To me by far the worst team to ever win a World Cup.
The kind of team you'd love to see the Saudis pummel their ugly faces in a smash-and-grab.

Is this new Spain this good, or Costa Rica this bad? I thought Costa Rica was a tough team to play against in recent years, at least tough and gritty defensively (they only conceded 8 goals in 14 qualifying matches) but this is just a complete drubbing. 4-0 @ 60 minutes, 0 attempts at goal for CRC and Spain has 85% possession.
