considering their history, it wouldn't be surprising, but now they probably have the best youth system and arguably one of the strongest squads. i thought i wanted dd back to juve at some point, but if it's the best he can get out of this france squad...
I said it in Euros, why is this hack Deschamps still the coach?

how the fuck did we win Serie B with deschamps I'll never know after watching that shit fest, admittedly I didn't watch much of France in the qualifiers but it's not hard to understand how that team only scored 18 goals in the qualifiers with some quite predictable play.

Playing 2 holding mids against the might of australia too... :howler:

:agree: thought they would be favorites but watching their display today ( not taking anything from an awesome Australia) they are nowhere near being a team that can win this.
My money is on Brazil, I like their balance, a competent manager, they have it all for me

No adverts.

And you have to remember this is a British Television channel catering to its audience. They are clearly going to have bias, and would naturally favour Australia over France.

Though Mark Lawrenson is becoming more and more senile.

OK, as France wins over the Socceroos (damn is that a godawful hideously repulsive team nickname)... recovering from last night.

good luck Swag!! hope its a pleasant match for your boys;)
Thanks, brother! And my condolences for Egypt. But you are in Russia. :D

Sounds liek a good choice. Enjoy!
I ended up spending the last half in the Praça do Comércio anyway... just in time for Ronaldo's goal. (Photos coming)

Ronaldo began falling down before Spaniard touched him imo. Ref should have used VAR.
They did.

Yup. And I have mixed feelings about Ronaldo and Portugal's dependency on him. But that was really a professional move. Ronaldo saw that Nacho had left a leg out, so if he powered his speed to beat him he could earn a penalty for Nacho not being quick enough to avoid the contact...and he won it. That was a professional and fully legal play in the details of the game. There is a kind of beauty in that level of attention to detail.

Pepe being a complete idiot liability again. He cost them dearly in the opener of the last World Cup. At least it wasn't as bad this time.

Flailing on the ground for a foul call, looking for charity, rather than getting up off his ass and getting involved in the play. So cowardly.

I think there is a portuguese CB in our primavera
Is he 37 years old? I know it's Primavera but...

Seriously. It's like Dias is half the age of the other Portugal centerbacks and Santos still won't start him.

DeGea best gk in the world
That's what happens when you base your idea of the world's best by only watching sport in England.

At least Karius had a concussion.
 Harsh but true.

That summarized my frustration with the match. He looked so promising against Algeria during the week, I get why Santos started him. His experience with Spanish sides as well. But that turned out to be a mistake. He crumbled on the big stage with horrible hesitations. At age 21, hopefully that will improve.

Quaresma is the douchiest looking player in the world cup. You just know that guy is insufferable in person
They cheered in Lisbon when he came on. That is no small detail... he's a legend at Porto, which is the national rival to the local's Benfica.

His ability to show up during big games is something else.
Ronaldo was insane. Whereas his only impact was on the touchline for the Euro 2016 final, here he was everything and his touch was perfect. His mental discipline ridiculous. I hate when we have to face him as Juve in May, but you have to admire his ability to just take things on his shoulders in the spotlight and deliver under pressure. Amazing.

Even his fluke second goal because of De Gea having a brain spasm. You don't score 100% of the shots you don't take. Unlike Costa's first goal, which had amazing precision, Ronaldo hit that straight at De Gea and De Gea gifted him. But that's what he had to do and it worked for Ronaldo.

Weird looking at Pepe versus Costa though... two Brazilian expats playing against each other for adopted nations.

Mark Lawrenson is so fucking unbarable,

French player gets a arm to the mouth - tells him to get up
French player gets a knee to a player's leg - tells him to get up

the lead up to the French pen - "GREAT TACKLE" and still disapproves of the VAR decision afterwards
