The only problem with signing someone like Rodriguez is we'll likely have to spend at least 10-12m on him. There just aren't that many LBs available that we can get for cheap.
Rodriguez isnt impossible to get, because his contract is just running until 2016, but he would be VERY costly. Wolfsburg have plenty of money (VW strictly speaking) and for 10-12m u would just receive a huge laugher from Allofs. They wont give up easily on him, as they r trying to build a team on their own and being prepared to invest the next transfer windows. The only chance to get him IMO is that Rodriguez is heavily forcing a move and a club offering aound 20m €.

I agree that he won't come cheap, especially if he keeps performing as consistently as he has been this season, because interest from other big clubs is bound to pick up. I think our best shot at getting him would be an loan with an obligation to buy in this mercato, as I feel any chance we have of signing him will drop significantly after that if he keeps up his form going into the WC. At this point he's just on the wishlist of unlikely transfers for me, as we haven't been linked to him so far(to my knowledge) unfortunately :frown2:

A loan with obligation to buy? Yeah, sounds very logical to loan one of the best young LB in Europe and star of their team. Do u think people in Wolfsburg or Germany r stupid? Would u loan Pogba to another club? :sergio:

Two years ago Wolfsburg paid around 9-10m€ for a 19 year old Rodriguez fully aware of his potential and after a few months of adopting to the new league, he steadily increased his performances and is convincing and consistent now. Everybody, who knows a bit of football and follows Bundesliga knows that Wolfsburg having a jewel there and u can be sure that Allofs and Co. know it too.

Allofs has already announced further investments (Malanda pretty much wrapped up, Lestienne very likely and de Bruyne possible) and times look bright for Wolfsburg considered the last years failures under Magath. Wolfsburg under Allofs is moving into the right direction and the money they offer can be very tempting (Diego, Gustavo). You can be sure that they will fight tooth and nails for him so it 1st needs Rodriguez really forcing a move to even make Wolfsburg think about selling him and then 2nd u have to offer them big bucks, as a lot of clubs ll be interested in signing him, so to think u could get him cheap is pure delusion. There r not many good LB, as they r a rare breed so there have been plenty of rumours about interested clubs, latest example was Chelsea: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/9030773/

Its tough to get him, but not impossible.

Moreno of Sevilla would be another option.
Apparently Chelsea are after him and are willing to offer in excess of 20 million Euros, so I kindly advise you to forget about him :)

@W Lanzafame was never the new Messi Bro. He was supposed to be the new CR7. Get your facts straight :disagree: :sigh:

 Kinda like those Arsenal fans few months ago raving about purchasing Pogba for 20m.

I just doubt we have the money to actually get him on a normal transfer in the winter mercato. That along with the fact that I don't think we have a very good shot at buying him full price in the summer, when he'll be worth even more and will have attracted more interest, says to me that becoming first club in line through a loan with an obligation to buy is the the most realistic scenario that ends up with us getting him. That said, I don't think it's likely to happen, as I had stated in my original post.

I have heard recently that Santon is in much better form than Criscito. He has been playing very well so far and it may be impossible to buy him in the middle of the season. Besides, Milan is interested as well, as they are looking for reinforcments in particular in defence.

Newcastle are playing well (or were until the last game), so players stand out.

Obviously Santon has more natural ability and potential than a Padoin or Peluso type of option, but my opinion having watched him over the years is that mentally he's a bit more fragile.

The problem is if you wait for that sort of player to start fulfilling his potential and he starts playing consistently well and drawing attention then Toon are going to want £15m-£20m for him, that's just the way it works. As it is I think they would still want a fee bigger than we are willing to pay/value him at, which is why we end up with €5m team players.
