from what i heard is that perez vowed to buy falcao before he joined monaco but there was some clause in his contract that didn't allow him to join madrid which meant he went to monaco instead effectively parking there for a year and madrid would come in for him this summer, however with rodriguez being their main marquee signing of the summer meant madrid had to sell someone big in order to bring falcao, that being di maria.
